7970 Crossfire Help

Ok, so from a lot of help from you guys here, I decided to go with the directcu ii 7970 non top edition, and I was wondering how good crossfire would be. I know its a triple slot card, and i have 4 questions about that:

1. Will a standard crossfire bridge be able to fit across to the second card?

2. Are there any triple crossfire bridges?

3. How will the card spacing affect my cooling? They would have to be next to each other right?

4. The non top only has a 1ghz boost clock, and i would like to get at least 1200mhz out of it. With the cards being close together make the temps to high to achieve that?

1. Yes (provided the cards are close enough)

2. No (bridges do vary in size however)

3. They will toast if they are on top of each other (Air only)

4. Overclocking should be your last worry, you need to sort all 3 points above before focusing on overclocks.

How would i go about spacing them out more? They would only be a few centimeters away from each other because of the bridge right? What is the longest bridge i can get?

What motherboard are you planning to use?

Maximus V extreme z77

You should be fine in all honesty, a nice motherboard.

Put one in the top slot, and one in the 3rd slot down, i can see it giving you around an inch of room, it should work ok..

The normal CFX bridge will work fine with that configuration, no need for a different one.

Only use the RED slots.

Ok, thanks.

No problem ;)

I was actually looking to do a similar thing in my AMD system - I am pretty sure the same applies to me with spacing but I'd like to confirm it with someone who knows a bit more than I do xD

I'm looking at the following boards, I also realise that the Formula-z is probably overkill.

Asus M5A99FX

Gigabyte 990FX-UD5

Asus Crosshair V-Formula-Z

Asus Sabertooth 990fx-R2

go for the Asus Sabertooth 990fx-R2 if you gonna use 2 cards only

Both lanes with be @ 16x/16x

+ if you go CPU OCing the Asus have some nice heatsinks to cover most ot the heat for better OC stability
