I am hoping to build a gaming PC this summer and I was going to to put in a HD 7950, seemed capable enough and I have the option of crossfire when I get some more money, or when one doesn't cut it anymore. But I am not sure whether is should just wait for something like a 8870 which should be about equivalent. It would also be nice to know how long 7950's will be available after the 8xxx's have been released, I don't want to set up a rig for crossfire 7950 and then not be able to buy another one a year from now.
Could always wait till the 8000 come out for awile and the prices on the 7000 series drop and get a 7970 or 7950 after the price goes down.
what brand is mostly likely to not discontiue their 79xx's after the 8xxx has been relesased?
Read somewhere that 8xxx might not be coming out until 2014. You would probably be best off getting a 7870 XT (about the same performance as a 7950, but with a 7870 price tag). If you wnat to upgrade later on, go for it.
do you know if the 7870 xt is a stable card, some people have said that it isn't?
Judging by the fact that you can still buy 6xxx cards now the 7xxx cards will be avalible for a while after 8xxx comes out.
What do you mean by "is it stable"?
The 7870XT is perfectly stable with stable OCs. Every card can be unstable when not properly OCed.
Seeing sapphire still sells 6970's I'd have to say sapphire'

i guess i just saw a bad comment, i thought it would be a bad idea to sell a card that couldn't handle its stock clock.
do you have any guesses what a single 7950 would equivalate to when the 8xxxs are released and what crossfire 7950s would quivilate to also?
7950 will be something like a 8870 and well 7950x2 will be like 8870x2 :P
makes sense, thanks. any recommendations for a 7950?
8xxx should come out Q1/Q2 '14 Q4 of this year at the earliest if they rush it, which in that case it'll probs have immature drivers like the 7xxx @ launch.
The prices are already sooo low from when the 7xxx series launched, i don't think they can get much cheaper.
I'd say buy now. an 7month+ wait isn't worth it in my mind.
