Hi guys i was wandering if it's the money worth buying a 790i + ram compared to a 780i? i have seen some reviews and comparison's between the two but it's not that clear if it's the money worth..

780i FTW is the equivalent to a 790i with out the shitty RAM.
790i is near useless due to the DDR3 dual channel without i7 support.
My 780i does quite well, get the FTW if you want performance.
Cool! I didn't know that the ddr3 was a marketing scam.. I just thought that i would give some extra performance if you had a decent enough cpu.. like a Q9550 clocked to hell :)

DDR3 is expensive and they wont give you huge boost over DDR2, only if you are using X58 then you must have DDR3 (Triple Channel then).
780i FTW is a good choice.
If you have a choice between 780i and 780iFTW...get the FTW as it has vdroop controls whereas the 780i vanilla version does not.
Oh and if you have money to buy uber stuff, then buy the eVGA 790i FTW Digital PWM mobo and some fast DDR3 memory :D
Id say the 790i was beast before the x58's came around.
So if youre not planning on getting i7, buy the 780i. I have one only rma'ed once! (... It was an accident.. Well that is if a faulty shitty cable I bought roastes the whole motherboard..)
As many said; If 780i, go for the FTW edition.
Other than that it's just what rice said, 790i is a 780i with ddr3.

780i protip; Go to bios and set fanspeed on northbridge cooler to 40%, at 40% it wont make that VERY annoying high pitched sound..

I also had to RMA my 780i once. I smeared some Arctic Silver 5 onto the pins on the socket :/
My core 1 was at a constant 100% load and desktop operations were impossible.
Also, DDR3 Dual Channel is stupid; too high latencies to see any performance boost over DDR2. Only the i7 on an x58 can handle DDR3 well with its Triple Channel support.
Another con with the 780i would be the lack of 1066 memory support. It can either do 800 or 1200 (SLI RAM lol) Not sure if 1066 will work.

Rice; 1066 ram works fine. Even in EPP mode. BUT READ THIS; Sli ram does not work with 4 dimms!
Right now im running 4x1gb ocz sli ram in 1066. Not using EPP, as it wont work.
