Im planning to upgrade my GPU from my current gtx 770 to one of the Graphic Cards in the title and I would love a little help from you guys because I am relatively new to Pc building.
I game at 1080p and I dont want to buy a card which would be too overkill.
My Specs are:
FX-8320 4.0 Ghz
M5A97 R2.0
8 GB of RAM
600w BeQuiet! System Power 7 silver PSU
The Cards I could buy and the price for every Card:
Inno3D Gtx 780ti OC for 350 Euros
Gigabyte Gtx 780 Windforce 3X OC for 310 Euros
Palit JetStream Gtx 970 for 325 Euros
Sapphire Radeon Tri-X OC R9 290 for 270 Euros
Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X Windforce 3X for 320 Euros
The 290 Tri-X is a great card, it has some benefits like the good cooler, 4GB of VRAM lots of memory bandwidth and performance very close to the 290X.
The GTX 970 uses half the power and is faster, coupled with it's increased featureset and arguably better drivers I'd choose the 970.
You are not doing yourself a disservice with either choice, if money is tight don't feel bad about the 290, if you want Nvidia the 780 is comparable to the 290 in quite a few games and despite the power consumption it isn't drastically slower than the 970 and has all the software features.
The I/O is also a consideration depending on what you may require, if you purchase the GTX 970 from Gigabyte they have 3x DisplayPort, 2x DVI and 1x HDMI, I believe this to be the best I/O currently available on a card despite only being able to support 4 displays.
970 For its low power consumption and software features.... that's what I would chose.
If you are gaming at 1080p you'l probably max out just about everything with the 970. However its not exactly overkill. Going for the 780TI would be overkill.
