760 SLI PSU requirements

I was looking at this http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-120pg0750gr

Too power two 760's in SLI.

Its fine for wattage however I've heard things about amps and such witchcraft. Not gonna lie PSU's are not my strong point. And neither are the 700 series GPU's.

Any help is appriciated. Ty.

650W is enough.

You really don't need a gold certified 750watt PSU for 2 760s.

You could save a lot of money by going with anything between a 500-600w psu, with bronze, or silver, and save a lot of money.

Ah thats what I thought but the 750w is £0.90 more expensive. So why not lol.

I would like braded cables and it to be modular. Sorry for being awkward lol. Plus those only save me like £15 from the UK amazon store

The problem that I have with the supply that you have selected is that is it multi-rail. You are absolutely right, it isn't just about wattage.

If you look at any GPU, it will have a recommended power requirement. For a high-end card, this will be in the region of 500W and roughly 42-44 amps. However, this is not for the card alone. This is taking into account your entire system, in addition to the card.

+5V - 25 A ¦ +3.3V - 25 A ¦ +12V1 - 20 A ¦ +12V2 - 20 A ¦ +12V3 - 20 A ¦ +12V4 - 20 A ¦ -12V - 0.8 A ¦ +5VSB - 3 A

Focus on the 12v rails. You've got v1, v2, and so on. This makes the supply "multi-rail". Ideally, you want a single 12v rail supplying the amps. This is better for voltage regulation. If you have poor voltage regulation, it can damage your components.

So, you would want 500-550W with the 12v@45 ideally for a single high-end card. And give or take 700W with approximately 12v@56-58 for two cards, by my best estimate.

You can find the details of rails and amps of any good PSU on any good E-vendor sites, like Newegg.

I believe this fits the bill? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1750bbefx

Yep, that's a really good supply. 12v rail has 62amps. So you've got a lot of power there, more than what's needed for 760 SLI. A little headroom doesn't hurt.

Thank you very much for your help.

Noob question: How do you check the voltage on the 12v rails? And will with PSU work for SLI 760? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139040

If you click the "details" tab for that product in Newegg. Scroll down to where it says "output".

+3.3V@25A, +5V@25A, +12V@62A, [email protected], +5VSB@3A

It supplies 62 amps on the 12v rail. So where it says 62 next to the 12v.

So you have sufficient power for 760SLI. I would consider other PSUs, I am not the biggest fan of the CX series. Only because it is an entry level series. You can find similarly priced units which I would consider a better, safer investment. If you're confident with the CX, it will power everything just fine.

Which PSU's would you recommend?

Just take a look at the one's we've already suggested for the OP haha

What's your budget. It is advisable to invest in a quality supply. Lesser units can degrade your components. Hopefully, the requirement won't stretch your budget.

Preferably under $100 CAD but can go until $110

I'm using PCpartpicker to determine this. I'm unfamiliar with Canadian E-vendors. Though, many are the same as the US. I actually live in the UK.

These are a little over your budget.

The bottom link fits your budget. However, it is not modular.

The reason I chose the bronze non-modular, is because the bronze semi modular listed is actualyl multi-rail.

FYI, this is the PSU that is multi-rail:

As this link shows. Look under specifications, then generl output information. Actually another user called "Bogan" that uncovered this info.

The Rosewill Hive attracted my attention. It's modular and has support for SLI/CF. The only thing that wooried me is the 54 volt 12v rail. Is that enough?

54 amp 12V rail**

It is more than enough.

Yeah, sorry. Just got into all this 12v stuff. Thanks guys :D
