When will the extra 2gb matter? Would it make a difference for SLI or is it just marketing BS?

If you have the money get it. BF4 will be using atleast 3gb on Ultra so it will be usefull. Also if you run higher resolution than 1080p, heck yes you should!
The additional 2GB shouldn't matter too much. Personally, I would look at other GPU choices.
More V-RAM will allow for higher resolution's and higher quality textures. I am no sure you you mean about SLI.
I'm no expert, but I've read that SLI doesn't use the RAM from both cards, just the RAM from the card in the first PCI slot, if I had a 4GB 760 SLI configuration, would the cards together be able to utilize all 4GB? From what I can understand, the 256-bit rate isn't enough to utilize all 4GB alone.
More video memory will be useful when you game at higher than 1080p resolutions, or you game on multiple monitors or you have an extremely modded version of skyrim.
I wouldnt pay more for 4gb model if its real close to the price of the 2gb model the ya get it but a 760 doesnt need 4gb.
You are correct SLi doesn't combine RAM the 4GB version is probably for people who want one now and will buy a second after a price drop and they earn some extra cash
