750Ti Problems

My friends and I decided to chip in to buy an EVGA GTX 750Ti SC for another friend's birthday the other day, but the card simply doesn't work.

He installed it himself and informed me of it not working, so I went ahead and tried myself, being careful to make sure it was correctly installed and that he had the correct drivers. Without the GPU using integrated graphics everything boots up just fine, but using the 750Ti there is no picture or boot to the bios, just an underscore "_" in the top left and either "A1" or "B2" in the bottom right hand corner. The monitor is connected through DVI using the included DVI - VGA adapter.

In fear of the card being DOA, I took it home for testing in my own rig. I have an EVGA GTX 760 SC and swapping the cards out resulted in no issues. Everything worked as expected, GeForce Experience recognised the card just fine and it performed as it should have in a quick benchmark. I was however using HDMI to connect it to my monitor.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks

Friend's PC:

  • Intel Sandy-bridge Pentium processor
  • 300 watt power supply (could be the issue)
  • 8GB RAM

My PC:

  • Intel Core i7 4770K
  • Asus Z87 Pro
  • EVGA NEX 650G 650 watt power supply
  • EVGA GTX 760 SC ACX

It may be the PSU but more likely it could be that the BIOS isn't set up for the right display adapter. It could be still using the integrated video and not the GPU. Unplug the GPU and go into the BIOS you should find in there some option that is like Display Adaper or similar. Switch it from integrated to PCIE or whatever option seems to make sense. Then plug in the card and boot. It should work.

This happened to me when I first put a GPU into a system that had never had one before.

Great, I'll give it a go, thanks.
