I'm aware that the power consumption is much lower on the 6300. I have a 700watt psu, and I'm basically looking for a cpu to overclock somewhere in the 4's. I want a six core, so I was obviously shooting for the 6300. Now that I see the 6200 is clocked higher, that's starting to interest me. How is it in terms of OCing, though? It seems like it would end up consuming a little too much power if it was oc'd to something like 4.5.
Really, any of the FX series can get up to 4.8GHz fairly easy, provided you have the right cooling and decent motherboard to support it. Even 5GHz isn't that uncommon. I'd go FX-6300, since Piledriver is more efficient than Bulldozer, it already Turbos to 4.1GHz.
My fx-6300 on an asus M5A97R2.0 is running @4.2 with the AI auto tune, temps are in the mid 40s,using a coolermaster hyper212plus. I cant wait to manually tweak it up. This is a great cpu very pleased so far
6300 will give you better performance at any clock speed, the 6200 is bulldozer model, need I say more?
6300 it is. I'd love to achieve 5ghz, actually. I just have to water cool, basically.
