Hi, i want to ask if a 60 gb SSD is enough because i read online and watched the $350 gaming build logan did on the a10-5800K and people said that an SSD will not give much FPS boost on games and it will be just as good as putting on a hard drive and i know that load times will be a lot more faster but i used to be console gamer and i had a 4 gb xbox 360 which means that i did not install games on there, so load times are also even longer and personally, i don't mind it. With that in mind, should i just get 60GB SSD and just put my OS in it?
If you're getting a SSD get 128 or save up till you can 60 is going to limit you like crazy and having it only for your OS isn't that large of a speed boost.
Forget the SSD, especially at 60gb's. I have a 60GB ssd and a 250gb storage drive, just with windows antivirus and the basic bits i only have 16gb of space left. Ofcourse you can increase that space by tweaking some safety features and get a bit more space. When i compare my WD blue 500gb to my 60gb SSD in gaming, there is zero difference, ofcourse boot up times and loading programs happens faster on the SSD but in gaming no difference.
For the price of the SSD you can manage a 500gb hard drive, programs will take a extra second to load but when you are gaming there is zero difference. No fps drop, no glitches no anything, there are reasons why HDD are still being sold quite a good bit.
ok then, but i am curious, if what you said is correct, then why do people buy SSDs for gaming systems?
Well i think its for the same reason they buy a Ivy build when they already have a Sandy build, they like new hardware. I bought a SSD because everything ive read said it was faster then a HDD, and it is. It loads programs faster, it boots into windows faster but in gaming i noticed no difference. SSD do offer benefits, if you drop your rig from a table with a HDD chances are it can give you errors, SSD will not even feel it.
Folks usually follow the trends that they see, even though SSD's are the future for the money right now i can not justify buying another SSD if my sole purpose is gaming.
Is it because they can? That's my wild guess.
don't bother with my last post john c, i did not see your post yet when i posted my post.
It is all gravy good sir, for a budget system a HDD will do you right for years to come and fit your budget well. Of course that is my own personal opinion/experience on that, if you want a SSD please buy it, it does perform nicely.
EDIT: Definitely can, i believe most of the popular brand SSD's come with software to do just that. Samsung ssd's for example.
But if i want to get an SSD in the future, maybe i won it in somewhere or in the future SSD will have the price per GB as HDDs, can i move my OS to the SSD? Assume that i also have the hard drive filled up with different types of games also.
I won't be building a budget system, so is an SSD a good investment?
Definitely, you just have to get a proper sized SSD, 120gb at least. Get the biggest your pockets allow, they are indeed awesome!
What if i get a seagate momentus XT, will it be faster than a hard drive? For me, it is the price of a decent 60gb ssd and a 1 TB HDD
I honestly dont know, i never tried a combo HDD/SSD in one unit. Let me just point out a thing on your 60gb SSD/1TB HDD combo, chances are you will be installing games onto your 1tb drive ultimately you will not be using the SSD for gaming.
yep, games will just go onto harddrives, i can't even bear to think of putting a single game onto an SSD, i mean like TF2 is coming close to 13gb already, putting it on an ssd really is like paying extra for the game itself, i know TF2 is free to play but i am on premium. Also that is my only game on PC, and i quite liked the smoothness of PC compared to xbox, so i want to switch to pc. Also it was played on my laptop, which uses hd3000:C
Only TF2? Good sir you need to take a gander at the vast ocean of games for the PC, and Intel HD3000 is nice, heck i play Skyrim with it and diablo 3 and quite a few others lol
Well, i am quite new to the pc world so i only got TF2 but i am gonna buy a buttload of games when get my system.Hd3000 is decent but it is on a laptop with a tiny fan, so my laptop gets very loud.
Also because of that, i do not dare to play anymore intensive games on it.
I'm running a 64GB Vertex 4 & a 1TB WD Caviar Black.
After windows & and antivirus is installed I have 35GB free. I don't plan to use the rest of that space, I could have bought a 256GB SSD for that little bit more performance but storage is not its primary purpose. Just OS.
My system runs hell quick with it :)
120GB SSDs are very nicely priced. I use a Crucial M4 64GB SSD in my laptop, and it was one hell of an upgrade. Going from 5400RPM HDD to high-performance SSD is really a great jump. I don't feel limited by 64GB, since I only play LoL on my laptop and use it for school- and when-I'm-not-at-home work. But if you need more storage, you might want to invest in a 120-240GB model.
