I'm looking to build my first gaming pc after more than 10 years playing on consoles. looking for help because I'm totally new to the scene of pc gaming. I prefer intel to amd and one of my requirements is that the pc should be powerful enough for gta 5 . Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help. cheers
You sure about intel there? As AMD's quad cores can compete fairly well with an i5 in most games.
Also what resolution are you gaming at?
What PC size?
Do you need a mouse/keyboard/audio set up/monitor?
@streetguru It's just my preference, I will take an amd build if it's powerful and have a good value for money. as for resolution it will be 1080p.
forgot to mention in op but can someone recommend a good $100 16:9 monitor ?
thanks
"I'm new to PC gaming, but I prefer Intel because of x, y and z."
Uhhh, okay.
Really need those answers that streetguru asked.
Also, do you need an OS.
this is my first pc build so i've been asking my friends who have a gaming rig and their preferences and they told me to go with intel processors. i don't include the price of an os in that 600 bucks
Just get the windows 10 insider for free, gimme a minute, do you need a mouse/keyboard as well? Seems so.
AMD is well worth the money for a mid range gaming set up.
In addition some CPU benchmarks for GTA V. AMD's still hitting over 60fps on average, not to mention the 860k is a bit faster per core than the 6300 and up
And also what size do you want?
"AMD quad cores can compete fairly well with i5 in most games".
Lolz what.
As far as AMD vs Intel goes, in this price range it's probably i3 vs FX 6300, and an i3 will perform slightly better. So basically get whichever one you want.
I think a build like this would be good.

If you have extra money, you could an i5 instead or maybe an R9 280x.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/t8K8cf - 6core fx, 8gb ram, 1tb hdd, 280X, case, psu, no OS
GTA5 is very well optimized so you dont really need a beast of a system for it to crank @ 1080p with eye candy turned on.
They don't. AMD's CPUs only do "Just as Well" against Intel CPUs when games are GPU bound. in games that take advantage of the CPU, AMD gets annihilated. in the future stuff like this won't matter thanks to DX12 and Vulkan. most if not all games will be GPU bound.
Nope. Windows Insider Program has been postponed. you can't sign up and no one is getting preview builds anymore. he can however sign up for the new insider program after Windows 10 drops in 2 weeks. Insiders are already running the RTM build everyone else is getting on July 29th.
As for @dios if you choose intel you aren't going to be able to get a fairly good GPU in your build. Intel chips run pretty expensive. usually at these types of price-points AMD is best only because the CPU's have the best price to performance. the amount of performance you get on a lets a $140 AMD CPU you aren't going to find in an Intel processor. usually you have to grab the i5s and above to get the insane performance.
When building a gaming PC the most expensive component in your system needs to be the GPU, not the CPU.
This is what you could get at most with the Intel build at the price point

And here's something you could get if you went with an AMD based build.

the AMD FM2 CPUs can get around 70-80% the performance of an equivalent gen i5 in games, and it does so at half the cost or more.
A low end i3 while a bit faster than say the 860k, costs a bit more, and that performance gain probably isn't worth it when you can simply overclock the 860k and equalize it a bit more.
thanks for the help guys, might look for a 6 core amd processor.
just to clarify that the $600 doesn't include the cost of monitors, keyboards and other stuff.
+1
ITX or ATX?
maybe i'm going to go with atx but i'm not that sure yet
In any case there's my suggestion, an 860K+370 with a 1080p ips display, Although you should shop around for something like a 280 if they're still on sale at $150.

If you really need to fit an OS in there you might as well drop to an APU rig and throw in a GPU later. Otherwise just use linux wink**wink
Does anyone know what's wrong with PC part picker and GPUs today? a lot of them are missing.
I have an Fx 6300 and it has no problems with any game, if your main use is gaming save the money that you would use on an intel cpu and invest in a more powerful gpu
my main concern with going for a cheap cpu is the system's lifespan. will it last like 3-4 years if i go with the athlon x4 860k ?
Don't go with a very old amd cpu a 4300 or 6300 shouldn't crap out, i have mine overclocked to 4.1 and its been stable for over a year and a half now
He said that the $600 doesn't include the monitor and accessories.
You'd probably be fine for a good while, DX12 should take the pressure of CPUs, by the time 2 years rolls around there will be real performance increases to upgrade to.

Right like, he needs them in the budget? Or did I read that wrong and there's a true total budget.
