550 watt psu r9 290 + old gpu

hi everyone,

i have a i7 4770k 4.7ghz 1.265V, ASRock h87 performance, msi r9 290, 5hdd's, 1 ssd, and 8 fans on a xfx pro 550. it has 44A on the 12V rail which is 528 watt. i'm currently using one monitor but i have a tv doing nothing and 2 1024x800 monitors. i have a ati x1550 which i can use for 1 vga connection so i can use all my monitors but is it possible on my psu? i don't plan on oc my gpu. i think my ati x1550 is 27 watt.

can someone help me?

This will be good enough and will supply good power to you components: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-NEX750G-Certified-120-PG-0750-GR/dp/B009YC3EAI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398967973&sr=8-1&keywords=80+plus+gold+power+supply+700

I perfer this one because of the single 12 volt rail: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Series-80PLUS-Gold-Certified-Supply/dp/B00EB7UIXM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1398968060&sr=8-2&keywords=80+plus+gold+power+supply+700

hmm, I would go for 750w

i'm not planning on buying a psu:(

You would be well under the limit of your psu but to be safe Id lower the cpu oc just to leave a little more breathing room for the psu.

You'd be surprised. I think your current PSU might be ok for your requirements.

Here's a video with a 450W powering a good number of high-end components.

your old ati card will get powered by the pci-e slot it self so yeah why not? ☺ i dont see a reason for a new psu

well the r9 pulls pretty alot of power and a oc 4770k i don't know. it's 100% load with editing, i think i draws pretty alot. psu gets pretty hot also. how hot can a psu be? and is there some software to check the wattage? i know some corsair psu's has have software for that.

That PSU should be able to power that system. It will probably get hot, but PSUs can handle heat.

A $10 plug in wall unit that measures power draw will tell you what you need. Handy to have in a household anyway to gauge how much each device uses. I would hazard a guess that your system would use <100w idle & <450w @ 100% load. PSU heat isnt much to worry about - that what the fan is for. There are protection measures built into any half decent unit that will shut down before damage occurs from extreme heat.

so i can oc my gpu and cpu with that psu? i don't know if there is a safety poweroff in the psu orso. i don't want to destroy my gpu mobo and cpu. the psu has 5 year warranty so that's not the problem :).

Its a re-labelled seasonic unit. It'll be fine.

thanx. my r9 290 is broken sadly but we will see how far i can take that baby. it had the hynix ram but i have ram problems again. hope the new one will also have hynix ram.
