4TB HDD Windows 8 64-bit

I just ordered parts to change out my whole computer except my graphic card. This includes buying:

  • Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
  • WD Black 4TB
  • Windows 8 64-bit

I will install Windows on the Samsung drive, and keep the WD drive as 'data' drive. However I've read lots of articles with issues with that big drives (4 TB). Many articles say I have to partition it as GPT instead of MBR, but some of the articles mention that is if you want it as a mount drive. If I keep it as a data drive will I have to worry about anything, or can I just use it normally after I have installed Windows on the SSD?

Should be no issues. With MBR tables you can only have 1 single partion 2 GBs large, so GPT if you just want a 4 GB data drive. The only thing to keep in mind if you have to think about where you want things to be stored, and change the default folders if you want to store things like a steam library or music library on the data drive.

Alright, thanks a lot. I think I will just split it in 2 partitions of 2TB then. That way it will also work on older mobo's without UEFI if I need to.
