4tb data recovery ddrescue

hi, bro learning a lot thank you.

So far I came to this watch?v=Lc6VdpaT_2g (youtube video of someone) and it says it won’t have any SATA port, I mean I literally need the data back in my house with software because this has all of the family memories that are all there without any backup of it aren’t there a tool I can use that can clone it for now and then later if I have to send it then I can use my clone (Sure I will format it before sending)

I took extra care of it and it sometimes make clicking sounds but that is not very common to make such noise of my drive otherwise i am pretty sure that it might not be physically damaged.

I am now so frustrated at WD for making such product that they don’t take responsibility of and even though they put encryption in it, I mean are they really want there customers happy (I mean i didn’t set any password ) ?

I used chkdsk first (Now i am realizing that was big mistake) i left it in the middle, Wd diagnostic SMART tool, Then used TestDisk then tried R-studio and now doing with ddrescue

Some error i encountered in the process from above softwares

  • Too many bad sectors
  • Unreadable block then some HEX val, It was pretty huge first then starting to come small after another run (So i think i made some mistake there that makes starting blocks unreadable)

Try using photorec on your image to see if the file extensions make sense.

ok sure i will try to use it, thank you.

Well the best of wishes and luck with this. I am sorry you got stuck in this situation. I would definitely try to get a refund and let WD know that this product resulted in the loss of your data. It is very likely WD included this “feature” to force consumers to buy an internal hard drive making their data “unreachable” if you pull the drive. Of course you can pull and wipe the drive and use it like an internal drive unless your data is already on it…

I do try to stay away from encryption of personal data. I have lost a lot of data to encryption that would had otherwise been recoverable… I do encrypt on machines connected to the internet. But I like to keep unencrypted offline backups in case I loose the OS. If you are worried about your offline data you can use a safe. If you need to encrypt offline data you probably have a reliable way to decrypt it hopefully…

I know in this case you did not choose encryption I am just making a general statement for readers. Like I said good luck.

I can understand that that’s the best advice one can offer, i think i will look for some professional that have that triangle chip to decrypt data or maybe something, but thank you for your efforts and knowledge you guys shared @OrbitaLinx @Adubs

And i am an open source web developer, If you like to advance your forums like notfications, app etc. let me know i will offer you guys the services as best as i can.

You can ddrescue the drive forwards and wait until it gets slow, stop, and run ddrescue in reverse. This should get most of the data assuming the drive is readable at all.

If the WD enclosure is confused or damaged it could also provide the enclosure opportunity to damage the data further. I agree with him attempt decryption directly on the drive first / seek a data recovery specialist. If that fails then theirs no harm in trying what ever. I wouldn’t trust the enclosure at this point due to all the different recovery procedures already attempted and stopped. It is sounding like the data is pretty important to the OP if he is willing to seek a data specialist in the first place. If that is the case that would be his best bet.

We don’t know anything because we never got any real info out of OP. Of course professional help is the best way to go.

Good luck OP
