So here is what I'm looking for. I want a monitor that can view 3 webpages in portrait on a single screen. Which first led me to ultrawide monitors, but the weird aspect ratio scared me away. So I was thinking 4k.
Questions:
Can you view 3 web pages in portrait across a 4k screen?
Can you game at 1080p on a 4k monitor without any blur? (the whole 4 pixels just turn into 1 thing)
I'm pretty picky, I'm hoping it will look just as good as native 1080p.
Buying a 4k monitor just for 3 webpages in portrait a single monitor is a MASSIVE waste of money IMO unless you have a very specific use for it.
Anyway you could and the windows will be 3840/3 = 1280 pixels in length each which is respectable.

Well, when you put it that way then yes. But I have started to dislike multi-monitor setups due to bezels and just how much screen is in front of me. I find that I only ever focus on a single monitor anyway. Also, using a 1440p or 1080p monitor you can split webpages to each side of the screen, but I can't stand looking to the sides all the time. I want the first webpage in the center and the other(s) on the side(s). This would also work with applications, not only webpages. When I web-browse I'm a tab-aholic so having three different pages across the screen would be great. Also I find that I prefer the less desk real-estate needed for a single 4k over 3 1080p or two 1440p. I like the minimalist setup.
I also like gaming on a single monitor. My current 980 cannot handle 4k yet, so I would like to just game at 1080 until there is a single GPU that can handle 4k.
This is a weird situation but I'm still trying to find the most optimal setup, for both gaming and productivity.
