4k monitor help

I'm looking to get one of these Korean 4k monitors and I can't decide which one is better. I was origannly gonna get the AMH A399U Matte but I see people saying the Wasabi Manga is better, and If it is better which model is the best to get.

I think this is proabably something for @Wendell to answer. I'm curious about the Mango too.

I got the a399u and am very happy with it. I think that and the Crossover 404k are well positioned and priced where the 404k is about 15% "better" (no PWM and 10-bit color) and thus priced 15% more. The one thing I regret is that my 40" 4k monitor is not curved because at desk distances, it would make a difference. Otherwise, I am very satisfied and feel I got a good price.

I decided to go with the a399u Matte, It was more in my price range atm.

It's what Wendell, Logan, and I all have. Granted we had to de-glass it.

I also modded the power cable to be a socket instead of a cable.

Is this not the De-glassed version ?

I dont know its says non glass, and the one wendel got didnt say "non glass", but I picked up the Matte version cause someone said its like they skip putting the glass on and send it to you. Matte

That is the non-glass version. I'm saying that Wendell, Logan, and I got the Glassed version. It's also likely that our videos talking about taking the glass off, encouraged the company to provide one without glass.

Just out of question do you know if the AMH is anti Flicker? becasue i cannot find out anywere.

Hi ! Any chance in identifying the power pcb in the a399u and getting an extra board. (I have 3 screens too) a specific reply would be appreciated.

Cheers :-)

From what I gathered the AMH has lower latency and an excellent price. The Wasabi is cool because it has freesync but the drawback it seems is a very high latency which is bad.. I am tempted myself with the AMH but I am going to hold out because I think things will move forward quickly from here with the usb-c stuff happening.. I am fairly certain we will start seeing faster refresh rates. I don't think it will be over display port. I could be wrong though but it seems DP just doesn't update very often.

From what I have seen, it does appear to be anti-flicker. @wendell may be able to speak with more knowledge on the subject.

Why would you want to get an extra Power board? You can always open it up and take a look.

Hi , thanks for the reply.
For one simple reason; when in unknown territory, carry a back-up ALWAYS. Many times in the past , simple curiosity turned out into a nightmare. (I have been in electronics and adjacent technologies all my life.) Nearly all problems have their origin in an unstable or defective power source. As you probably know, depending on the technology, it may be a very standard part or maybe a very limited production of a specific board. (another reason for getting a spare, obsolescence is quite rapid in that branch). In any case I prefer not to touch without proper checkpoints and orderly procedure. Just having the part is very basic protection. Specialy when I already have 3 and consider going for a fourth. Properly adjusted, the A399U display quality just plainly amazing and (IMO) has no competition .(No Glass version)

Fair point. I would suggest just popping one open and taking a gander at the board.

I may still have to do that to finish my video about the Power port mod I made.

Hey, while you r at it a few shots of the interior and dis-assembly sequence would be nice, Maybe we could all benefit, including you !
And again, the A399U is an amazing product; was it an accidental design or a rare super efficient combination of various parts manufacturer..............
AMH are probably a bunch of maniacs; or at least one maniac, did you check their web site ?

I hate their assembly line; a lot of screws have stripped or forced heads.......(unless they have the MONDAY production and FRIDAY production problems...................(lol)

I think it is only anti flicker at 100% brightness. at 100% it seems to be a flat DC curve but at < 100% it is PWM.

I've had better luck out of the Wasabi in terms of backlight control. Better colors as well, except for the blacks. The A399 has better blacks. I think I prefer the A399 overall though except for wanting freesync pretty bad.

wendell do you believe the A399 can be firmware upgraded? possibly adding freesync somewhere down the line? or has it no usb flash port?
