After showing a friend of mine the video where Wendell SLI the 980TI HOF and running a 4K monitor, he is very keen in getting 2 x GTX 980TI to replace his GTX 780. However, due to desk space constraints and other factor (parents), he can't get a new monitor and thus he had to go for ninja upgrades.
Since DSR can downscale 4K into 1080p, one question he has being is this even viable? I can't run DSR on my own RIG because I'm away from it to even see it for myself. He is using a ASUS VG248QE, a 24 inch 1080p monitor, so any advice?
Well, he could try it right now, with his current set-up. If he has Trine 2, Alien: Isolation, or The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, he can go ahead and give it a whirl, and see if he likes the graphics.
It is not the problem of budget, it is the parents being a problem. Changing the monitor will be too obvious and he'll get berated. So internal upgrades are viable here.
I've ran 4k dsr for BF4 with my 980ti, it's no 4k but rather the most beautiful anti aliasing you will ever see. is it worth how much money he'd have to drop into it? fuck no.
Also if this "friend" has enough dough to drop on this shit they need to grow a back bone and either A. Move out or B. stand up to their parents, I know it's none of my business but when has that stopped me before?
Anyways, back to the topic, since he only has 1080p 1 980ti will do fine as you can max settings dsr every title, some up to 4k some up to 1440p. I DSR Witcher 3 to 1440p at 45 fps with a heavily modded ini
Well, DSR isn't specific to those games. Those are just games that I know that work decent at 4K on hardware that isn't in the Titan X/980 TI class. Have him utilize it on some of the other games he actually does own.
Alternatively, if he's willing to drop $1000+ dollars to achieve 4K gaming, I think he can afford $10 for a game to try it out on. Besides, those are all good games that are worth it.
