4k @60Hz on TV with r9 290x?

I have this GPU and just bought this TV. I am wondering if it is possible to get 4k @60Hz with this GPU with an adapter since my GPU does not have an HDMI 2.0 port.

I have yet to see anyone not have problems trying to do 4K 60Hz with a HDMI port out of a video card, nvidia or Radeon.

Use an active Displayport to HDMI adapter. I highly suggest Club 3D as not all are created equal and Club 3D is tried and true, I use 3.

thanks do you have any reccomendations for HDMI 2.0 cables?

Not specifically. I used one that came in the box with TV (Vizio) but the other 2 were too short and I just picked up a two pack from Costco. The two from Costco are Wire Logic Sapphire. I know they work for sure.

Yes but only over DisplayPort as @Raziel stated already. You need HDMI 2.0 whereas your card probably has HDMI 1.4b which is only capable of 4k @ 30Hz

My GT1030 has no problem with 4k 60Hz from HDMI, that said only cards with HDMI 2.0 work. I believe AMD cards have no issues as well so long as its 2.0 of course.

All HDMI cables are 2.0 capable. Its a standard of the port, not the cable.

Careful, they are still selling a lower standard HDMI cable than 2.0.

Not at 4 4 4 chroma they don’t which OP’s TV is capable. I have Radeon Vega 64s and they could not do it.

Neither could Barnacles do it with nvidia Pascal Titans, so I doubt your GT1030 can.

Make sure you enable 4k 60 at 4 4 4 if you are using for text. It is optimal setting for using TV as a true monitor. If not, many experience headaches and text will be blurry.

Unless you are buying literally the cheapest cable from china on ebay there is very little chance of this. The cables OP has laying around are likely to work fine.

Thats not what OP asked and not what you said. 4k @ 60Hz is very doable. Furthermore HDMI 2.0 supports 4 4 4 chroma at that resolution at 8bit, which has been possible since the 900 series.

You can choose to believe what you want. I have no issues with my setup.

Well that is some Voodoo magic only you have been able to accomplish. Guess ALL the rest of us are fools. I would seriously check that you are actually 60Hz and not 30.

Its not voodoo or magic and I’m not the only one who’s doing it. HDMI 2.0 supports 8bit 4k @ 60hz in 4:4:4.

If you want to go to 10 bit then you are absolutely correct, but again thats not what was asked. What was asked is about doing 4k@60Hz and then you started spouting off about 4 4 4 chroma which is also doable. I am 100% sure about getting 60hz on my GT 1030. Thats why I bought it, that and hardware HEVC decoding.

Was not arguing whether HDMI spec supports it. Sure their spec says it is capable. I still use an HDMI 2.0 cable.

But using the video card’s HDMI port for 4K 60Hz 4 4 4 at 8 bit does not work.

Are you using a monitor or a TV?

Seems like you guys have a bit of a cable contest going on here…
Just sayin’

The 290X nor the Fury had HDMI 2.0. I had to buy an active display port to HDMI 2.0 to finally get 2160P 60Hz from my Fury.
It was able to display from its own HDMI but only did 30Hz with lots graphical glitches that also cut the audio.

I purchased this one

Old topic but I found it while searching the google machine. I am trying to get this working on a Fury X to no avail. I got 4k 60p 4:4:4 working on intel hd 630 on my 8700k with the club3d active adapter but it doesnt seem to want to take on my Fury X or another machine with a 290x. :frowning:
