4GHz OC i7 920. (I know its old)

Just wanted some feed back on this overclock mainly in terms of temps. Testing stability at the moment.

HT is enabled btw.

Thanks

Even though it is a bit old it is still a kick ass CPU.

Your temperatures look a bit on the high side though. I a no expert in OCing on the Intel platform, especially on Bloomfield but a quick check on Intel ARK looks like you don't wanna go over 68C

oh it definitely is an awesome cpu.

Thats what I was wondering. it does fluctuate slightly and this is also running prime 95 after about 40 mins. It is cooled by a custom loop and previously I had reseated the waterblock as I thought the cpu temps were a tad high. It went down by a degree or two.

It could be the CPU is getting old? running hotter? dunno if thats a thing...

I'm not sure what the thermal interface material between the cores and the heat spreader is on that chip. Some were soldered others used crappy paste so I suppose if it used the paste it could have become old and not work as well making it hotter? Not really sure about that though.

Just make sure the block is well seated and you apply the thermal paste correctly to avoid air bubbles and stuff which I'm sure you know.

It could also just be Prime95. I don't use it. It is very bad to use on the new Intel CPUs and can even cause the chip to draw more voltage then you set it at.

It is at about max temperature under Prime95. I'd doubt you'd ever hit those temperatures under normal load.

Yea, cool cool thanks ;)
