Recently build myself a new pc, msi z87-GD65 Gaming, 4670k and Kingston Hyperx beast 1600mhz, i have never really played around with overclocking before but i thought i wanted to give it a go, im using a noctua nh-d14 on the 4670k and it's running at around 45 celcius under load, thats while gaming, hits around 60 with aida and prime95 @ stock speeds.
So i was just basicly wondering, how much can i turn it up, i mean the mothermoard does have an auto oc genie feature, not sure how safe or good it is, but i was thinking 4 or 4.2ghz should be safe, but im not really sure about the limit in regards to heat etc, so would love some suggestions.
Also running a MSI GTX770 Lightning, wich im guessing is also ripe for some overclocking, i have heard the 770 is basicly a 680 with a factory oc, so im not sure there either how much i can actually turn it up, in regards to heat etc again :)
Any inputs would be greatly appriciated!
Never trust an auto setting. Default your oc to nothing. Manually set your voltage, load line calibration to the max, up the multiplier one step at a time. Check stabiltiy. Once failure, increase voltage by a little until stable again, rinse and repeat. Watch temps. 4.2 should be very attainable with modest voltage.
Your end result could be that you need very little voltage increase or lots, just depends on how lucky you are with the cpu you got.
Either way heat will be an issue its just the nature of the beast. Make sure you have some good airflow going on. D14 ftw btw. :-)
As for the 770 overclocking, just use a gpu tweaker - afterburner etc. Try and keep around the 80c mark at the extreme while testing - eg using OCCT.
Good luck with it all.
Thank you for the answer, i am as new as you can get to overclocking so most of the things regarding the cpu oc doesn't make much sense, atleast yet ;) i searched around a bit and found this guy:

Seems like a decent guide for a newbie like me, same cpu, same bios setup, just on the 45 instead of the 65 i have, a decent guide to start out with?
Yeah man, good find. Have fun.
