would i find any gaming improvements or general improvements going from an fx 4100 to a fx 8320?

You should see improvements in a lot of later titles(ones that can take advantage of a lot of threads)
Overclock to FX-8350 speeds and enjoy the performance boost.
yes,the jump should be pretty big. Oh and 1 more thing,if you get it,disable turbo and overclock it to 4.0 ghz via multiplier,you don't need to play with voltages,just change the multiplier until it hits 4.0. save and exit.
