4 Pin into a 2 Pin

Hello,

So I have the 650D from Corsair, its comes with a built infan controller.  The MB I have is the Max 6 Hero.  Has 4 fan headers on it.

I bought a mesh side window for the viewing side and it has mounts for 4 fans.  The issue is that all the Headers on the MB are taken and the ones from the case are 2 pin.  I have 4 NF-F12 that connect to 3-4 pins.  What I did was take the protective cover off of one of the 2 pin conects to plug 1 of the NF-F12 into it.   It does work this way just wondering if it is going to catch fire or something.

TL:DR- Can you plug a 4pin fan into a 2 pin conect.  Thank you

Not sure I totally understand. A 2 pin fan? D;

You can just get a Y-splitter and connect multiple fans up to a single header. Software utilities on the ROG Hero will still detect each individual fan. Like if you wanted to use Fan Xpert 2

Going to try and draw this out :P

|....|  <- That is the fan

|..| <- That is the power for the fan comeing from the fan conector

Can I cut off the   |..|  lines from that and just plug the fan into it with out any problems.

The fan plug is to big to fit into the header unless I cut the sides off of the plug coming from the case.

The number of pins can be a non-issue. 4 and 3 goes together. It's just that, if you need to cut the side off to put it together... it's probably not meant to be.

I'd just purchase a couple of $2-3 Y splitters. That way you can use Fan Xpert 2, which is better than a fan controller, in my opinion.

2-pin fan headers have 12v power and ground, nothing more. 3-pin fan headers have 12v, ground, and RPM tach signal. 4-pin fan headers have 12v, ground, tach signal, and a PWM wire to switch the ground connection on and off to create a square waveform.

Thank you every one...  Another small question...Can you put Y splitters together?

Pretty sure you can. It's just a male/female extension. Up to 10 fans per header, maybe more.
