I have a mix of total 4 MacBook M1 Pros, M2 Pro and M4 Pro.
USB-C keyboard and a touchpad.
Single Samsung 57" Odyssey Neo G9 G95NC monitor.
Webcam on top of the display.
What KVM switch should I get to switch between these 4 MacBooks?
Is " HDMI 2.1 KVM w/EDID & Serial Control - Single Monitor - Four Computer" the one? Will it handle webcam (it’s a simple USB-C webcam). Thank you!
As far as I know this screen has a KVM build in. But I don’t know if is easy to setup and to switch between the different inputs - Edit: Okay, it only has two upstream ports ,so you cannot connect more than 2 machines as input devices.
I would try following - Hardware solution:
Disclaimer: Because you are driving a high res screen 7680x2160 I would suggest you invest in high quality cables / Adapter. Club3D is a decent brand for video cables. This is the cheapest HW solution, switch between videoinput with the screen, switch inputs with a USB-switcher:
Video connection:
Get 2x USB-C to HDMI cable / or USB-C to HDMI converter + hdmi cable for the x M1 pro Macbooks
Get 1x USB-C - Displayport cable for the remaining M2 Macbook
Get 1x hdmi 2.1 cable for the M4 Macbook pro
USB:
I have used this USB 3.0 switch for years, get some cheap USB-C to USB-A converters for your USB-C peripherals - Keyboard, Mouse Webcam don’t require much bandwidth.
Software Solution:
With M1-M4 + Mac OS 15 you can also use Apples high performance remote control and circumvent the whole KVM switching, but you can only use your webcam on one Mac.
Hm, so, no. I’m pretty sure. The HDMI 2.1 KVM might could handle 7,680 x 2,160 at 240Hz with DSC… but MACs do not support DSC, which is what you’d probably need to even attempt it… You will also need adapters, which could lower your bandwidth further.
This guy used the monitor in side by side mode, which essentially makes 2x 4K 120Hz monitors. That will probably work if you’re interested in trying it!
