4 displays vs RTX 4090!?

hey guys, i hope you can help me out

i cant have all my displays connected at the same time, theres always some issue of some displays just not turning on at all, turning off for another one… etc.

i think im running out of available bandwidth or DSC counts for 2 displays in the case of the G9(?)

basically i just want to have all my displays connected without crawling under my desk to constantly unplug and plugin displays

1x odyssey g9 5120x1440p 240hz
1x 1440p 75hz
1x 4k TV 120hz HDR enabled
1x valve index 144hz

no i dont have an igpu, i tried running the first three displays in 1080p 60hz and that works - then i start up STEAMVR and the pc just hard reboots at that point… maybe that is helpful to mention

what are my options here? buying a low-tier secondary gpu?

OS, version, PS size and mobo? GPU is in the top x16 slot on your Mobo with approved power cable fully seated?

I’d start by unplugging the video cable for the G9 and trying the SteamVR. I suspect that’s causing your issue. 5120 @ 240 is using a lot of resources.

Also, with the G9 plugged in, drop your Index to 90Hz and see what happens.

You actually have FIVE displays in play. Each eye of the Index is effectively a 1440 x 1600 monitor. 144Hz on the Index is “experimental.”

4090 is good, but can’t scale infinitely.

I suspect you are exceeding the maximum supported resolution (unless I am reading the spec wrong, it isn’t all that clear what they mean).

If you have some other GPU to throw into the system (or onboard/integrated graphics), it is worth a shot.

OS: windows 11 pro 22H2
mobo: MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI

yes its on the 16x pcie slot fully seated and plugged in with 12 pin or whatever that new one is

i have my g9 and my secondary 1440p screen running, i turned on steamvr without problems and turned my index down to 80hz

im not sure if that max resolution is per output or all outputs together
but it does say it only supports 4 displays max
if i have my g9, my 1440p, my 4k TV + index it should be 4 screens, unless of course the index counts for 2 screens

unfortunately i dont have a secondary gpu lying around

Not sure how useful to know, but my RTX 4000 drives 3x 27" monitors (25xx pix ,60hz) and 1x VR headset with no issue. Hope you’re able to resolve your issue.

I have the same type of setup. 2 x 32" Predator monitors @1440 up to 270Hz and Varjo Aero VR (2880 x 2720 per eye.) However, my Aero is unplugged from power unless actively using it. That’s on a 3090 and I’ve never had issues.

so i seem to be the only one that is in a situation where i managed to exceed the maximum bandwidth of my gpu?
