3D vs LED vs IPS

Hey guys,

I am wondering which will be best for FPS games as I am very much fond of shooting games.....

I really want to experience BF3, Crysis 3, etc. in 3D will that be a sensible shopping???

For 3D I searched AOC e2352PHZ and LG 2342D.

If you went with a 3D monitor they are usually in the 120 Hz flavor so when you play non 3D you get the benefit of high refresh rate at 120Hz. Higher refresh rate = smoother transitioning between frames (non 3D mode). In 3D mode you will drop from 120 to 60 Hz.

IPS panels will have the richer colours, deep blacks, brighter whites. If you are a photographer or cinematographer it would be the best option to go. IPS panels tend to be around the 60 Hz mark. I don't know any IPS panels at 120 Hz. They also have an average of 178 degree viewing angle without colour distortion.

TN panels can be bought at 120 Hz flavor but viewing angles are more narrow than IPS counterparts.

If you really want to get the most out of your FPS experience look for 120 Hz monitor. You will need a beefy GPU to output through a 120 Hz monitor as well, I'd say nothing less than a HD7870

You will need a singificantly more substantial GPU than that if you want to actually output 120 FPS of distinct frames instead of it just doing some image manipulation and giving you duplicate frames while it tries to process the next one. I'd say nothing less than a 7970 for full 1080p with details on high. Even then it might struggle, depends a lot on the game though. I'd probably not go with the gimmick for now and wait until things become more compatible and games properly use the 3D attribute to the fullest. Right now, I just don't think it's worth the investment, as the monitors are fairly expensive, and they do have minimal viewing angles due to the fact that most of them are TF or thin-film screens which have high refresh rates, and good colors, but really poor viewing angles. A better choice is to wait for AMOLED display technology to filter down into larger format displays.

Means 3D will not be a better choice...:-(

Thanx a lot.

I like IPS displays if you really wanted a new display, but be aware that they do not have high enough refresh rates to be 3D capable, that is still a couple years off, if it happens with that technological generation at all. But the IPS panels have perfectly acceptable response times with outstanding color reproduction and viewing angles (178 degrees in most cases.) Plus you can usually pick up a 23" one for about $159 or so depending on the brand. Asus are nice and usually matte finish, AOC is also Matte and has decent blacks, but the colors aren't quite as saturated as the Dell monitors. Haven't seen an HP one in person, so I don't have a point of reference for those.
