I like this

Don’t know if anybody was a fan of rigid.ink, but they recently closed up shop and switched to being an “academy” or similar BS.

Every email I get from them now sounds like an infomercial.

Before this they did have comprehensive guides on certain topics, I don’t know how good of a business model it is though .

It even has the shattered glass.

Taking a break from a teardown on the JG Aurora A5 just in some hope to undo the bloody X-Axis idler gear so i can tension the thing.

Not really asking for help on this one, but this has been my headache of the week :slight_smile:

  • hot-end stops heating mid print.
    – Voltage fine.
    – resistance probably within tolerance
    – heated up just fine after letting it sit overnight.
    – possibly an issue on the mainboard?

  • x belt tensioning is evil on it.
    – printhead is using the less preferred version w/o an adjustable screw mount within it.
    – must remove x-belt idler pulley.
    – idler pulley bolt is attached to satan’s asshole it seems. Haven’t broken it lose. uses 3mm allen/hex.

Edit: they used loctite on the screw holding the idler pulley… :clown_face::earth_americas:

Got that cacked loose finally and can just take that off for belt tensioning now

Resolution not that great imo, good enough for sure but idk better DPI needed unless he didnt do as high of detail on purpose

Aside from dealing with the existing issues with that JG Aurora A5, I’ve been mulling over some new printer options.

Sacrifice some build volume

  • Ender 5
    ++ 300mm build height
    – modify to direct drive + all metal extruder setup + 32 bit main board
    – modify in a BL-Touch sensor.
    – source a 32-bit contoller
    – 220x220mm bed.

  • Prusa MK3S Kit
    ++ Probably more trustworthy.
    ++ Good first-party support & updates
    ++ Bed Leveling Sensor out of the box.
    ++ Can absolutely reuse micro-swiss nozzle & spare e3d V6 style nozzles.
    – Short backorder into January.
    – 250x210mm bed
    – reduced max print height.
    – Large prints will need more planning // can’t print some parts in one shot.

Go bigger?

  • Ender 5 Plus
    ++ Get an extra 50mm on X & Y to play with + much more Z to play with.
    – Likely same upgrades to do with the standard Ender 5.
    – Modify in a BL Touch Sensor
    – Doubt it’ll fit on my existing desk comfortably. Aurora A5 already has to sit sideways on the desk.

  • Anycubic Predator
    – He chonk.
    – He Delta.
    ++ Was on Sale for christmas @ $339.00
    – Recommended to be upgraded to a Duet or SKR controller board

Pick up a similar size

  • Creality CR10-V2
    ++ upgraded frame design over the stock CR10 and various clones.
    ++ Built in support for direct drive conversion.
    ++ Support for BL-Touch install
    ++ 300x300mm bed

The Prusa MK3S is currently my #1 option, though the print volume can be a bit of a bear for some of the things I print, but aren’t out of the realm of possibility after model prep.

Also tending to prefer Prusa just because of my bad experiences with JG Aurora as a company. And makes me wary with dealing with other “direct from china” manufacturers

Has anyone seen it where when printing, the plastic is pushed back almost like it cant keep up with the amount of plastic its trying to melt?

Depends if you’re getting underextrusion or not.

If you’re getting that plus underextrusion, then either the hotend isn’t up to temperature for the spec of the filament, or there’s a partial clog.

Oh, and extra thicc Delta is still discounted to 339 as of this morning for me. (normal price is nearly the cost of a Prusa MK3S)

Easiest modifications would be stepper motor dampers, and o-rings to reduce play in the rods to the toolhead.

Salmon Skin Reduction can be done using Triangle Lab TL Smoother Plus modules.

Update

The First Anycubic Photon SLA Printer has a deadline for it’s Sale for new year’s.

Sale price is 239 USD, from 419.99.

Predator Delta is still 339, but also now part of the New Year Sale.
