So I've set up my new rig with a Gigabyte Z77X-D3H mobo, NZXT HAVIK 140 cooler, G.Skill Ripjaws 1600MHZ (2x8GB) , some other stuff and of course, the 3570k. I'm new to OC'ing so I just want to know if these temps are ok.
Turned the multiplier up to 42, base clock still at 100MHz (so 4.2 GHz), still stock voltage (set to auto, I think). Temps according to RealTemp are as following:
Idle - All cores hovering around 40 degrees C
Prime95 blend - running around 70 degrees C. Peaks at 76. (Ran this for 4 hours now, everything seemed stable but I turned it off because I need sleep the noise would keep me up). I'll run IBT when I have the chance tomorrow.
Also, just some oddities I noticed. At stock clock, one of my cores was running about 5-8 degrees cooler than the others (reached 27 min, others min around 33). Would this be due me not applying the thermal paste right? Also, when overclocked, one of the other cores is running ~3 degrees hotter. Anything to be worried about?
You probably applied the thermal paste incorrectly - for that CPU cooler, 40 degrees idle is high.
whats your ambient temp ? and probably a little to much thermal paste
Not sure, but Australian summer night and inadequate air-con probably makes for 23-28?
Well fist off if your voltage is AUTO the Mobo could be bumping it higher then it needs to be giving off more heat, and if not that re apply thermal paste and use less (assuming you put a bit to much on as i did when i built my first PC), also check to make sure its tightened down correctly and that the fan is spinning at the RPM it should be.
Well, running IBT, CPU-Z says the core voltage reaches 1.176V, which seems reasonable to me, so I doubt it's that. And CPUID says the fans are running at ~1200RPM, so nothing wrong there.
*Sigh*, guess I better go find some isopropyl alcohol and something to rub it down with. T.T Such a hassle to fit this cooler, I swear...
Ahh well, thanks for your help, man (ma'am? lol nah, who am I kidding)
yea thats around stock, so id say time to clean it off lol
