I cannot decide between a 4k 40" AMH A399U and an LG 34UC87M-B I really want to try 21:9 and the 1440p versions but the AMH A399U is like half the price, Does anyone know of any 21:9 3440x1440 Korean monitors ?
With a 1:1 scaling you can always use a pixel perfect 3440x1440 resolution on the 4K 40" display. Also, the blacks are very dark, so the bars won't affect you that much. This will give you the ultrawide experience you're after.
I think 21:9 will be very annoying once you'll want to watch a youtube video, or a tv series, or a movie that will leave a lot of black bar area on the sides.
21:9 is fine only for gaming and watching movies that are filmed in that format. Anything else will be a disappointment. 16:9, or better yet 16:10 are much better aspect ratios for doing everything and everything else on a computer screen.
So better of buying a 40" 4K and then playing the Games in 21:9 windowed mode.
If you really want 21:9 yes, but I played a few games at full 4K resolution and I didn't feel like I lost anything. I actually feel that I gained. 21:9 feels like I'm looking through a door mail slit. It limits my field of vision. For me personally 40" 16:9 is a lot more immersive then 34" 21:9. Bigger is better.
But everyone's opinion could differ. Best thing to do, go try it out somewhere for yourself.
Almost nothing nowhere in England I can go to try it XD.
I know it's not much, but check this page: http://www.displaywars.com/34-inch-21x9-vs-40-inch-16x9
With 40" you get 64% more. Now the problem could be a graphics card that can drive it.
GTX 980 ti would be enough But would a r9 280x?
Depends on what games and on what settings.
Planet Side 2, Skyrim Modded as Max as the game goes Ect.
From what I remember, Planet Side 2 is not well optimized at all. Meanwhile modded Skyrim takes tons of resources. I don't think that a 280x would cut it. You would need something more akin to a 295x2 or 980ti in order to run those decently at either of the resolutions mentioned. However, if you are willing to turn down the settings some for now, you can make it work for a while. I am predicting that the next round of AMD gpus to be killer, so if you can hold out until then, I think that it will be worth it. For now though, I would suggest getting something like the freesync 4k monitor that Wendell just did a review on (I have been eyeing that one myself) and then turn the settings down. A monitor like that would likely last you a good long while. You would likely upgrade your gpu several times before you change monitors again (barring disaster).
ATM I would prefer 21:9. It's easier to power so your frame rate will be more reliable. Also there are a bunch of monitors with gsync//freesync coming out with better ranges of frame rates.(the 2 acer monitors that don't compromise)
I'm saving up so I can buy a gpu and monitor next release cycle.
I was planning on buying the screen along with a GPU Had my mind Set on the 980 ti (I want to try an Nvidia).
The 980ti does 4k well enough.
Yes but not reliably. Some people don't want drops at all.
What do you mean.
Not even the 980ti will keep the more demanding games at a consistent frame rate without compromise on a decent amount of settings.
You mean at 4K or 21:9
4k is still a little much.
21:9 1440p has a decent amount less pixels witch helps keep the frame rates higher and stable.
Or you could just get a 4k monitor and only run it at whatever lower resolution that you want. No reason to pay for less pixels.
In the mean time I found this comparison on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkRC42nlI4Q
Hopefully is not against the rules to post other YT channels' clips. But this guy makes the exact comparison you're after.
