Sooooo, i am doing a nice thing for my grandparents because their computer has just broke. They don't really know anything about computers (I have to come over to their house to add bookmarks).Obviously they dont game. Now they only have 1 desktop and it is and old IBM from 2001. LOL. They have only used 40GB space on a 13 hard drive. Im thinking of getting them a standard 250GB Western digital.
My priorities for this build are:
-Quiet!
-enough to go around the desktop, surf internet, and watch full 1080p video without stuttering.
-APU
Edit #1: I want to add i want a very reliable motherboard becasue i really do not want a Mobo to fail on them and spend the extra $.
Edit # 2: here is what i am thinking about buying: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3rRKP
The motherboard was not on the list to choose from. This is thee actual MOBO: http://bit.ly/1qXjwIa
I am not doing any rebates so add the $30 back on the total along with the extra cost of the MOBO. I would like to have it cheaper so if you could reduce the price of anything comment it!
Edit #3: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3sqqm This is the final build i am thinking about. Pretty sure is is more than enough. The only reason i don't like it is you do not get the $10 off combo discount you do get with the Edit #2 build. This is because i switched the CPU from a A4-6300 to an A6-6400. I am just going to use 4GB of ram because you can always add more if it slow. Emailing it to them today! Tell me if there is anything wrong with it.
20 dollars over budget but this would do them fine and then some http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3r9Lx

@ Chris_Bartlett athlons dont have intergrated video so thats missing a video card.
Oh yeah, was just thinking FM2 and assuming
This one is on budget and includes an OS http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3ra8f
I have heard bad things about earthwatts PSU's. They catch on fire. That's fine i will just pick out the cx 430. will this be quiet?
This is great combo... The only thing i would change is i would add HDD instead of SSD... I couldn't live with only 120GB storage... May be the PSU to...
Why this expensive mobo in this budget build? The Asrock one is almost half price... And for the difference a better ram can be added or a better apu...
I'd grab a second hand all-in-one pc (like that from Dell), no tower just a system in screen. You should be able to pick up an older i3/i5 model quite cheap (<$300). Being just a screen with all the business built in. Much easier for the elderly to use especially if the screen is say 24" or bigger.
My thinking was if WiFi was needed, thought buying a budget board then buying a wireless PCI-e card would be about even price

$255. Will fit their needs just fine and will be nice and snappy with the SSD.
@psycho_666 if you read the OP you'd see that it's for their grandparents who have only used 40GB over the last 13 years. 120GB would be more than enough. Plus an SSD would give them a more pleasent user experience (no waiting around for things to load).
I really like this one might order this later in the week. TY
Well there are problems with that the A4 has crappy intergrated graphics and a A55 chipset mobo has no sata 3 6gb/s (a ssd will be sata 3) and 4gbs is low for a APU as 2gbs is dedicated the the APU leaveing only 2gbs of the os and web browseing can eat more than 2gbs of ram alone.
Here is a build
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/JeremyB796/saved/4n9l
dual core A4 / 4g ram / windows 7 to keep things familiar...
~$300, leaving space to adjust!
this is impossible without rebates though...$350 maybe but it's still pushing it.
powerful integrated nor 6gb/s are needed for a budget build...this is as far as I think you'll get
I can fix things more-
do you need dvi? (vga only)
more ram?
an a6 instead?
you have to choose between ram or apu or else you'll break budget...
i suggest ram as it'll make things all around faster.
It's not meant to be a record breaking speed-demon of a PC. It's for general use for someone's grandparents. They aren't going to care or notice that it only has Sata 3 3GB/s. It will still be fast and snappy for them and that's all that really matters. It doesn't make sense to spend more for something when they won't notice the difference.
4GB ram is the bare minimum I would suggest for any build. It is enough for a general use machine. I highly doubt they will have a dozen tabs + in chrome running at the same time. They're not power-users. I made my recommendations on the basis of who will be using it and what they need for a good user experience as well as keeping the cost down.
I agree 8GB ram is better, but it's not entirely necessary in this situation.
It has to run 1080p video a A4 will realy be pushing it.
watch full 1080p video without stuttering
