$3000 Workstation Build Competition

I am currently re-building my computer, and after my upgrades the total value of all my parts (including peripherals) will be creeping up on the $3000 mark.

This got me curious as to what you guys would do given a very specific usage and a very specific budget.

So, can we have a little competition? Winner gets bragging rights! Also, nobody will be deemed a winner (yay).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the set up:

You are building for someone else, not yourself.

Client does not want to upgrade parts later, so give them what they need now.

Programs being used are Maya, Cinema 4D, Adobe After Effects, Davinci Resolve, and Adobe Premiere.

No gaming.

Needs to be a (relatively) quiet build for an office environment.

Small form factor is preferred.

Budget must include monitor(s), case and OS.

Provide a brief rationale for parts.

You can go over budget by $300, but any more is a disqualification from this not-really-a-competition.

Here is what I threw together http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PVdfGX

_____Rationale_____

CPU: Intel Core i7 5930k - Better price to performance for editing applications than similarly performing Xeon Processors.

CPU Cooler: Nocuta NH-D15 - Hella quiet yo (considering performance).

Motherboard: ASRock X99M Extreme4 - This won out over the EVGA micro due to ASRock's "HDD saver" feature. It will add additional reliability to the harddrives since we are using RAID 0 to keep the 8TB of storage.

Ram: Crucial 32GB DDR4-2133 - I mean.... it's the cheapest DDR4... that's why.

Graphics Card: PNY Quadro K5000 - Driver optimization and 10bit color output.

Storage: Samsung 850 Pro 128GB and x2 WD Red 4TB HDDs - 128GB is plenty of room for the OS and the Applications. The WD Reds offer outstanding performance for long renders and in raid arrays. I chose RAID 0 for this because I wanted the system to have as much storage as possible without sacrificing performance for the budget.

Case: BitFenix Phenom M - Classy looking and has pretty good cooling. Chosen mostly for looks.

PSU: Corsair AX760 - Very reliable and 80+ Platinum certified.

Monitor: Asus PA249Q - 10bit color for accurate color grading without dropping hella dolla bills.

OS: Windows 8.1 - idk just because

Let me see what you dudes come up with!

shit man you got me beat

except why not a 5820k? same core count and if you have one quadro you are NOT going to fill 28 lanes.

Slightly faster clock speeds. idk. i didnt put as much thought into as you might think. dont question me!!!!!

51 cents under budget

damn you....

Please don't get WD Reds. They're slower than molasses running uphill in the middle of winter. If this is a workstation with WD Blacks or WD SEs. Both are pretty fast for mechanical drives and have an extra two years of warranty.

And don't get the PNY Optima that's in Vandal85's list either. Pretty crappy speed and reliability for an SSD of that size.

Geforce can do 10bpc, its just a feature you need to switch on with Nvidia Inspector. So long as you're using HDMI or better it'll send the signal properly. Not to mention that Quadro on your list is well into 4 years old. For the same price I'd grab GTX 980 EVGA with better ram and performance despite being labeled as gamer/enthusiast hardware.

You mention RAID 0, but where is you backup solution? Unless you have a NAS or other external drives to backup source and projects its not worth it.
