That would have been hilarious. "We invented the 2.5mm jack on phones" while Nokias already had those 15+ years ago

Nokia tried getting rid of audio jacks 10 years ago. That did not work out. like, AT ALL.
Every time I see an iPhone 7 now, I think "ahhhhhhhh... Nope."

Sony Ericsson tried the same. My C905 had this weird proprietary connector.
It also had a better camera than any smartphone I've ever tested, but I digress.

Just because there was actually room for lenses? Nah! That can not be it...
I used to record with the Ampkit 3.5mm interface back in the day when I had an iPad 2. I think they're killing it for people like me who like to track stuff with their instruments without much hassle & on the go. I can see companies such as focusrite and IK multimedia coming with "solutions" for the new iphone, but I really doubt they will replace what already exists in terms of practicallity and affordability. And now that android can do this kind of stuff via OTG or 3.5mm on samsung phones, my guess is that they will bury apple away on this.
