3.4ms (GTG) IPS Monitor for Gaming

Hey Logan, I've heard that IPS Panel displays that are "gaming-grade" should (well, I've heard "must", but I don't know) have at least 5ms GTG response time. I've seen you mention 8ms for an IPS Panel on an imported 1440p monitor that you thought was good enough for gaming, but I might be remembering what you mentioned on that video incorrectly.

I've also heard Linus and you advocating how IPS panel displays are so much better. So when I saw this monitor, I just double-take'd a bit. Not sure if this monitor is real, or if this is worth it or not.

So I'd like to know if you'd review it. Is it *actually* 3.4ms GTG, or not? Is the image quality worth it? At 400$, is the price worth it? Does this monitor have a response time that's low enough to be competitive in a competitive LAN FPS game, or not? And what about other games, like RPG, Action, or other genres?

If possible, could Pistol do part of the gaming review, so I could hear her opinion on it?

Many thanks in advance, Logan. Let me know, be it by a forum response, or in the Tek video. Seeya. Cheers!

I've actually heard some pretty good things about the Eizo IPS displays, nothing really negative.... although I may have been watching some biased reviews.. who knows!

The only thing that gets me is that they don't seem to make any IPS displays over 23" which, is not necessarily bad, just I'd like to have a gaming monitor of that calibre a little bigger.

Either way, I agree, would personally love to see a review on this monitor.... see what all the fuss is about and to really dig down to the nitty gritty details that I always see with Logan's brutally honest reviews!

Logan: I want your Amon Amarth shirt, you bastard! ;)

Actually, since this is a 1080p monitor, I think 23 inches is awesome. If they were making a 1440p monitor with 3.4ms GTG, than I'd want 27 inches or at most 30 inches.

There are some much cheaper, 5ms (GTG) IPS Panel 1080p displays available on NewEgg:

- Acer H236HLbid ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009483 )

- ASUS VS24AH-P ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236331 )

Even ASUS's cheap 1440p monitor is 5ms GTG with a 1440p resolution, the ever-popular "ASUS PB Series PB278Q" ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236294 )

So, what I want to know is if 3.4ms (GTG) for an IPS Panel is really worth the premium. Considering that I could get almost 3x that Acer 5ms (GTG) IPS monitor that's nearly bezel-less, even though it doesn't come with VESA mounts for a triple monitor stand, is the Eizo worth it?

$450 for a 1080p IPS? That's insane.

450$ for a 23" 1080p IPS. Sounds insane, but I want Logan to check it out. If they're selling it for 450$, there must obviously be somebody who is willing to buy it for that price, so I want to know if it's worth it or not. That's why I requested this review. =D

Obviously the price is going to be unjustified unless the monitor is absolutely amazing in every regard in such a way that it justified the price point. But since I don't know anything about Eizo monitors, I'd want an unbiased review - and Logan doesn't seem to hold himself back from insulting bad products. But I also wanted Pistol's opinions, since she is the hardcore gamer for the job.

1080p shouldn't cost more than $250, in my opinion. This monitor is priced to close to other top tier monitors. You can actually buy a 1440p IPS monitor with a response of 5-6ms, like the Nixeus or a Korean panel, for the same price as this Ezio.

Anything under 8ms is supposed to be good for gaming. And I hear that you're supposed to ignore the GTG response times anyway, the industry standards just lack authenticity, because of the way some manufacturers test their panels.

I believe this Ezio is just full of fluff! Really overpriced for 1080p. Rather buy the forementioned Nixeus, or spend an extra $100 to get the PB278Q. It's the monitor I happen to use, and with a response time of 5ms I don't notice any ghosting whilst I game.

Thanks. (I wonder if ASUS might make a 1440p 3.4ms GTG monitor anytime soon, at an affordable price?)

I've also heard that GTG is kinda bollocks anyways. I know that GTG means Gray-to-Gray, which is a transition from one gray color intensity that's very dark (but not black) up the a very bright (but still gray) color.

This is kind of like those 100M:1 contrast ratios, which aren't the *actual* contrast ratios. But, a GTG response time is better than no information at all. I guess, since many manufacturers don't tell their customers about the *actual* response times.

Honestly, most panels are 5-6ms, and there is no complaint with that. Not a huge difference between 3.4 to 5. Nothing noticeable, I would imagine. It strikes me as pretty unusual that they would advertise it this way. I don't know what they hope to achieve. It doesn't warrant such a heavily inflated price.

Maybe there is something I am missing, I am going to go with the obvious choice. Look at the alternatives
