2x Molex to PCI Power Adapter

How reliable are these, or should I just buy a new PSU?

I'm currently running a CX500 PSU from Corsair. I have an FX-6350, a HD7870 GHz Edition from Sapphire, and I'm planning on adding a HD7770 from Sapphire. The HD7770 is going to only be used for binding to linux while I virtualize Windows on the 7870, so it won't really be running with a heavy load. Because of that I'm wondering if I could get away with just using a Molex 2x to PCI adapter to power it, instead of buying a new PSU to have more PCI cables and a higher wattage output (the price difference is pretty drastic lol).

The reliability of the connectors is not a problem. The issue is the overall power usage.

I have personally used a 2-molex to 8-pin PCI-E adapter to power a GTX 580 and it ran fine.

In your situation I would be lazy and try the molex connector. Then just stress test using Furmark; if it doesn't turn off, then I would leave it as is.
