So I just rebuild my computer with a new motherboard, CPU, and added in a SSD. But now I've noticed windows 7 will randomly drop my 2TB HDD (a simple restart normally fixes it but now that is not the case) I've tried updating SATA drivers and re-installing windows but it still happens. So here is a basic time line of my computer
(original build with an ASUS rampage II Extreme with 3 HDDs - 2TB WD Black as main OS drive and 2x 1TB WD Black HDDs for extra storage)
Got an ASUS X-79 Deluxe board and have an intel 530 240gb SSD as main OS Drive and old 2TB drive as main gaming storage and 2x 1TB WD HDDs as extra storage)
At this point about maybe 4 months after the new build my 2TB starts to drop but my 2 1TB drives stay connected.
Recently my 2TB drive starts to act like its dying making noise and refusing to boot up and causing windows to detect back sectors - So I replaced it with a newer WD 2TB Black SATA III drive - at which time I re-installed windows 7. (now SSD and just 2TB in current system)
Not a day after havin windows 7 up and running and fully patched it drops my HDD again. Has anyone had this issue before or knows how to fix it?
Not for the 2TB yet (re-installing windows 7 again atm sadly cause it refused to get past the boot splash screen animation). But to have it happen to 2 different 2TB HDDs one of which was much newer than the last one. I doubt it was that but I'll look for driver updates for the HDD once win 7 is up and stable.
So my desktop is back up and running stable now (just have to install the 280 or so windows updates). But I have my intel SSD on the intel X79 SATA III port. When I try to plug the WD 2TB Black to the other Sata III port it seems to make windows hang on loading. But if I plug the WD HDD into my other intel SATA II ports it works perfectly. So far the WD HDD hasn't dropped.
