2nd hand price suggestions

I currently have the following pc:

CPU: i5 2500
Motherboard: Gigabyte P67A-UD3R-B3
Ram: 16GB of G.Skill
GPU: ATI HD 6850 (Unfortunately on its way out. I have underclocked it to keep it stable in some games)

I am looking to upgrade/update but I would like to get really good things on the cheap...

I was thinking a 3770K but I would like to keep virtualization support so I was thinking the E3 1280 (or 1290) and adding another 16GB of ram (just cause).

Heat is not a problem because I have a Noctua NH-D14

My main priority is my graphics though.

If I can get a GTX 980ti for $500 or less (Australian) including postage (My favorite parts store has them from $869 to $1099) would it be worth it or should I hold out for the 1070/1080 prices to drop?

I am going team green for now because Nvidia Shield...

What is your guys thoughts?

Wait. When AMD releases 400 series the price are expected to drop severely. Just wait. You may be able to get those exact same GPUs cheaper. Just hold on for about 20 days.

What exactly are you doing? Because for most tasks 2500K is just fine. If you are looking for extra features you may take a look at Z87/Z97 motherboards and some i7 4000 series, although you may also want to wait for that as well. AMD is expected to release Zen in about 3 months, so then there will be shuffle in CPU pricing.

But
if {
nothing
}
else {

}

20 days until GPUs going cheaper. Wait 3 weeks exactly.

I have the i5 2500 (not K, so no hyperthreading or overclocking) and I primarily use it for gaming (including emulation) but I do use handbrake to convert my videos to a more acceptable size and format.

I decided on the upgrade/update when my video card kept dying when I was playing Saints Row 4 and my 1080p recodes were taking up to 5 hours (pegging my CPU to 100% with 2 passes)

I considered a x99 build with a e5 2690 from China (being only $400ish each) but after reading about engineering samples that idea left pretty quickly.

I also saw some E5 2670 dual Xeon builds (since they are about $75ish on eBay) and I thought that might be fun :) 16 cores, 32 total threads, 64 Gb of ram (cause why not?) But I read server motherboard compatibility with SOME cards isn't exactly perfect and I didn't want to mess around with compatibility issues.

Tldr.

Mostly gaming, some encoding, thought of other options but put them in the too hard basket. :)

Single E5-2670 with an X79 board still wouldn't be a bad choice if you can get a good deal on a X79 motherboard... In the states they're still going for $200+.

Not here unfortunately :( $500+

It is still a possibility though :)
