I currently have a old Dell Xps 15 w/ a gt 540M gpu and would like to be able to play actually games at descent settings. Considering im spending around 2k i'd like to be able to play bf4 and other modern games STABLY at 50+fps on a 1080p (60hz) monitor that i might upgrade later to 1440p . as my current laptop for one reason or another (prob gpu overheat at 90/90c

Here is some Rational for my pickings:

cpu: no need to get a i7 i like the z87 chipset

mobo: reputable brand, comes with wi-fi which is a must in my house (yes wifi sucks on a gameing rig)

mem: at $120 16gb is reasonable, as i like to serf the web with 50+ tabs open (school research+ im scatterbrained)

250gb ssd for os, office, common apps, bf4 and counterstrike

$650 gpu really? because i was going to get the 660ti, then a 7950, 770, recently a 280x but heck after all that time i saved up so why not get a 290x with a $30 bf4.

I like the look and size at $~150 full towers, i dont like the nzxt 620 or its competitors, looked at a c70andcarbide air

found a hx850 on sale for $100 a few days ago and couldn't pass it up, otherwise i liked that hx750. At one point i entertained crossfire/sli and 850w for 2 ~250w gpu's but i would rather have one fast card for thermals and frame latency and just simplicity/less headache.

The disk is for legacy and running/installing my old (like starcraft, startopia) cheepest i could find

win8 just because its more modern/ slightly more efficient has more ssd functionality and with classicshell its similar to win7

Keybord because ive never had a mechanical keyboard before, and enjoy the back light at night on my laptop. I have heard (like everything) some people like the k70 but i dont know much about keyboards, I went and looked at a few at bestbuy and all the cherry mx reds felt similar.

I was thinking about getting two more fans for top rear exaust and bottom front intake

what are yalls thoughts on this? is everything compatible? am i overspending on anything? could i change anything to get more bang for my buck while keeping the quality.

Thanks for your time.

Honestly you have a pretty solid build.

Just a tip, I would wait for the aftermarket editions of the r9 290x as the stock one runs very hot. Like 90 degrees Celsius on load.

Ya, absolutely do not build this thing until all the dust settles with the GPUs. Between the 780ti coming out, the possibility of a competitive price drop on the 780, and the better performing 290xs coming from other vendors there is no reason to jump the gun right now. I actually have just built a damn near identical system(minus any GPU as i still waiting tosee how this turns out) but i was able to shave some money off here and there to keep it at $2000 with a i7 4770k and 32gb of ram(which i don't think you will need). Things you could save money on is going with a Fractal Define R4, damn near the same case for $80 on sale. Look out for SSD sales, got the same GB as you between 2 SSDs for about $50 less. Also i didn't need a new keyboard, got the ram off a friend for cheaper then retail, got some fans and a PSU off another friend for cheap so that saved me some too.
