27" Monitor recommendations

Hello (new here, although watched the show for a while).

I'm looking for a good (cheap) 27" 2560x1440 display. It's primary use will be work (design) and perhaps the odd bit of gaming.

I currently have a Hazro monitor which has been great and I need a second monitor and was looking for something similar for around the £250 mark (cheaper if possible). I know Tek Syndicate recommended the X-Star (?) not sure though, it was a good while ago. Just wondering if anyone here has any suggestions or would the X-Star still be a good budget option?

Thanks in advance.

Those monitors are pretty much the same for most  users. They usually come with a combination of these 6 characteristics under a plethora of names.

1. Glossy or matte screen. Glossy looks better without direct sunlight, matt degrades the quality a bit bit helps glare from windows and other strong light sources.

2. Very overclockable or regular pcb. Some can get their monitors to 120 Hz, they drop some frames at that refresh rate though.

3. Simple straigh dual link dvi imput or several imput options. The simple dual link dvi option might rreduce display lag by a tiny bit.

4. Ips or pls panel.....both look awesome.

5. cheap plastic housing or a higher quality housing (some metal) for a more premium price.

6. wibbly wobbly plastic stand that doesnt do much other than 10 ° tilt or so or a decent adjustible stand.

Remember that youll most likely have to pay import charges. Tell the vendor to split the bill in hipping and item cost (even with free shipping) or you will have to pay taxes for assumed premium shipping costs.

Just as a note 24in 16:10 is literally the same size2014-10-17 as 27in 16:9, just slightly less wide. So a screen like the u2412m can also be considered, and they are generally pretty good in terms of color accuracy which is something to consider.

Especially if you are looking at hefty import charges. Also pixel density ispretty similar, y

I have 2 Crossover 27Q LED-P and they are pretty amazing. They are about $100 more than the other Korean monitors, but they have 3 things that set them apart from the cheaper models:

1. Tilt, pan, height and 90* pivot adjustment. The pivot feature is HUGE if you do any kind of coding or text based work with long documents.

2. Tempered glass over the screen (others may have variants with this, but I think most are just the glossy finish not actual glass)

3. All metal frame, where others can really cheap out on the housing and stand, the 27Q has really nice metal housing and a pretty solid stand. The back is painted white, and front bezel is black, and they look pretty good from any direction.

Here is a more in depth review of the 27Q

If none of that really appeals to you though, I think you can pretty much take your pick of the cheaper X-Star/Shimian/Qnix/etc. depending on your output needs.

This is still a relevant video on the above monitors

Also another to consider is the Crossover 290M which is a 21:9 monitor, and looks pretty awesome (also pretty cheap too)

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the advice.

X-star with pls panel, or Achieva shimian with LG-ips panel are indeed good options.

if you do allot of design work and photo editing and what not, i would recommend to grab an IPS monitor.

Dude, love the username and avatar. XD

I can vouch for the X-Star. Love mine
