I have a budget of £200 ($350) for my monitor but have no experience with which monitors is best for gaming or produce the best colour reproduction as this is part of my 1st build moving from consoles.
The monitor will used for gaming at 1080p, anime and movies.
I'm getting the monitor in early January so any decent monitors that may be reduced soon will also be considered.
Thanks HENN3H I do like it, looking on amazon for the price on there i stumbled on this model Acer GR235HAbmii and is also 3D 120hz in my price range. What do you think of it?
Gaming and image quality/colour reproduction are mutually exclusive really.
You can't get a 120Hz IPS/PLS/VA monitor and TN panels look washed out when compared to IPS/PLS/VA panel monitors.
I'd suggest a BenQ XL2420T for gaming but it's a tad over your budget.
For everything else, I'd say an Asus PA248Q. It's also suited for gaming but not 3d gaming and not 120Hz so if you use vsync you're still limited to 60FPS max.
Usually I would suggest the Dell Ultrasharp U2412M in this price range because of the IPS panel and 1920x1200 resolution. The "downside" is the 8ms responsetime that according to some people could cause ghosting in gaming. I haven't experienced this but some just don't want to take "the risk". The price should be right around your budget.
Perhaps the Samsung Syncmaster SA450 would be something for you, it should be well inside your budget and this screen also has a 1920x1200 resolution and a little bit faster 5ms responsetime. Again.. some would suggest a 2ms screen but I disagree at this point.
Why two 1920x1200 screens you may ask.. well, the 1080p should have never been used in PC gaming at the first place. The aspect ratio is far off from what it used to be (the resolution under it is 1680x1050, only 30 lower in height!). Well my point is that you just miss the extra space in the bottom and when you have experienced this extra space you will laugh at the 1080p people :) :)
