2133mhz memory Motherboard

Hello guys,

I am building a mid level gaming rig and want to keep the total under 800-900$ if possible. CyberMonday I picked up 8gigs of

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL

for only $50 including shipping and taxes. That made this 2133 ram cheaper than 2000 or 1866 versions so I though why not?

Now I am looking at Motherboards, AM3+ to be precise as I would like to put a fx300 cpu on it as the benchmarks only only a little bit lower but the price point is half of that of a i5-3570 (at least here in Canada).

Now I have been reading up on motherboards and most of them only support 2133 if I overclock the board which seems odd to me. Am I wrong here? Can anybody give me some more information about this maybe? Also what happens if i stick this onto a board that natively supports 2000mhz ram... will my gskill just go down to 2000?

Any MB suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks guys,

Max

AM3+ only supports up to 1866 offically, but that doesn't mean faster ram can't be used(it will just be down clocked by default). If your mobo and memory supports XMP profiles, it can easily be setup in the bios or you can just configure the memory yourself to manufacture's specs. You should be safe with any decent board that supports memory overclocking and look for motherboard memory specs like (DDR3 2133(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066)

in such a board would I need to set the OC in the bios by hand or will it automatically OC to 2133?

Generally getting it to 2133 is a bonus because the ram i bought was on sale cheaper than 1600 or 1866 ram...

Thanks!
