I know the x370 Taichi is AM4, but, this one has been in a box since late 2017, not touched or booted once.
So, I am thinking about getting a Ryzen 5 5600X, and am wondering if there is going to be a BIOS issue of some type since the board would still have the BIOS from that time, and I don’t got another AM4 CPU I could use to flash it to a more recent BIOS version.
I think there are some mobos that can flash without a CPU, but, don’t think the “instant flash” Asrock can do the same thing?
According to the official ASS rock website the board doesn’t support Ryzen 5000. @Four0Four Y U so fast?
To go into a bit of more detail:
Bios flashback, but this board doesn’t quite support it.
What it does support is bios flash in UEFI, if I recall correctly. But you still need to enter UEFI…
Anyways, for now Taichi doesn’t support 5000 ryzens, so it’s all mute point.
Apparently support is coming for this board in near future. Keep and eye out for BIOS revision 7.0+. But there is one catch… you’ll need an older Ryzen CPU to update the BIOS first before installing the 5600 .
I also have this board and took a chance to get a 5600X while it was on sale.
Updating the BIOS was easy enough, went to 7.0 and then to 7.04 and had no issues. However, I was already on a later BIOS revision. Make sure to follow their instructions as I believe you have to go to a specific version before you can jump to the latest BIOS and then to the beta BIOS
@Four0Four is right though, you’ll need an older CPU to be able to get it to boot and upgrade the BIOS.
I haven’t ran into any issues with new CPU and the whole computer is running way better. I’m sure I’m missing out on some performance due to not having a later board but it was a great fairly cheap upgrade for me and should hold me over for a while longer.
