hi everybody, if someone can read this assuming there's people up right now, i'm building my pc as i'm writing these lines. my psu is a CM gx750w which includes a 20+4 pins atx power connector, the extra 4 pins don't seem to fit in the mobo, by that i mean there's no "click" when i push it in and it feels easily unplugable. Do I need them, is it going to blow up everything? sorry for bad grammar, im in a hurry and my desk is A MESS due to my pc building activity. I'd really aprecciate an immediate answer, thank you.
Did you put the pins into the mobo in the correct order?
I had that issue with my PSU, Have a look on the conector and you might see little dints in the plastic, this is so that the 4 pins get locked into the mobo by the 20 pins. Let me know how you go.
So we are in agreement then XD
There you go jeffreyfrchette, we just solved your problem (hopefully).
Yes its needed, if you look at the 4 pin connecter there should be a little lip on it, it needs to slide under the large lip of the main 20 pin block, it should then pin the 4 pin block down by way of the main 20 pin block.

Added a picture to help out, always hard to explain in text i find :) I have no idea how to post images directly to the forum hehe
I noticed that in the first place, but the plug seemed loose, i tried to plug the 4 pin first, all seems fine, the pc booted and i'm currently installing my OS, i'm still scared of the 4pins unplugging by themselve and bloing my lovely hard earned pc. thank you very much for your support, I hope I'll have the occasion to give it back to everybody on teksyndicate. this community is awesome.
The 4 pins are not necessary, it's just additional power that can be given to the motherboard if it so desires, on most higher end mother boards it's been replaced with a 6 pin power cable. It doesn't have to be tight, but make sure it doesn't just pop out under it's own accord.
I'm glad you got it resolved though!
Glad to hear its all good.
Good luck with the rest of the build and Happy Custom PC Times to you.
Well it depends, the extra 4Pins are there for extra power supply to the board, usually to help the PCI-e slot, whilst some board and cards will work fine without it some will not, youl end up getting BSOD's, random crashs and perhaps no boot atall. If you board has the 24 pin requirement its usually a safer bet to put it in rather than not, your right in saying its extra power but it totally dpeends on the system setup and the board requirements if it will run without them properly.
The 8 pin plug your talking about is purely for the CPU power, the board will still draw its power from the 24pin block, if that lacks the whole pc will just hang crash etc.
oh yeah, now that I think of it: my m5a99X evo r2.0 has a 8pin atx power slot, and my CM GX750w has the same wire (as a 2x4pin),BUT, one of the 2 sets of pins doesn't quite fit, by that i mean the sqared/roundish pins doesn,t match my motherboard, what do you guys thinks about this? should I leave only one or insert the other since the roundish pins fits in the squared slot. thank you in advance.
