I built it 2 years ago and haven't needed anything upgraded. After looking at these recommended system specs for GTA V and that a few games coming out this year i will play are likely just as demanding, i need an upgrade.
Processor: AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
Memory: 8GB
Video Card: AMD HD7870 2GB
HDD Space: 65GB
I'm looking to get as much out of this as i can, so i figure a new GPU and a decent air cooler to OC my CPU is my best bet. I also NEED a new keyboard, and im sick of membrane ones.
If you've tried and tested Kalih switches, then by all means go for the keyboard. If you're a beginner when it comes to high-end mechanical keyboards, then perhaps a board with Cherry MX Browns would be a less risky choice.
The R9 290 is an excellent card, and the value is there too, but with all the rumors regarding an upcoming 300 series in the next few months, I'd hold off for a while. The issue is these cards use an older manufacturing process, and the upcoming cards will likely be more power efficient, allowing you to get by on an older PSU, and produce less heat. Also, I'd refrain from purchasing XFX cards, they're typically lower quality, louder, and less reliable.
I would double you memory (I have started to push 8GB, even last night Dying Light had a windows pop up about low memory) I would add a good cooler and overclock your CPU. I have the AMD 8core running @ 4.8GHz on a custom loop but I also have a i5 2500K @ 4.6GHz and the gaming experience on both is the same.
i have not tried them, but i always like any switch that is very tactile. that being said, would you still recommend the browns?
i plan to hold out on the GPU till the 300 series is released.
none of the reviews professional or personal mentioned anything like that about this particular XFX card, but their lower end cards do look a bit sketchy.
Might try Nvidia GTX 970 or 960 they are resonably priced around the R9 290 and R9 290x and perform very well, I just bought sli 970s, my only problem is that they are bottlenecked very easily due to their power.
i actually thought about getting 970's before the vram fiasco. 3.5gb isnt 4gb. the fact they just shrugged it off as a misscommunication within the company and did nothing for the owners shows me they dont care much for the consumer. plus g sync is proprietary. i always prefer to support companies that support open source stuff, especially when the 970 and 290x perform nearly the same.
Id say stay with the fx6300 and grab a CM 212 evo and overclock the cpu. use the money to buy a gtx 970 if its out of your budget see if you can find an open box item at microcenter ( if you have one).
Hey man over the last 6 months I've slowly been upgrading my AMD build as well and would have had been done this passed week with new 1866 Sniper ram and a sweet ASUS R9-290 4GDDR5 only problem was the card was F*&%^$, so with that R.M.A. I decided to wait on the video card and took the store credit to wait for the new series. In other words I would suggest waiting as well from what ive read all these R9 cards seam to have a lot of problems.
The 8350 is a good choice, buy another kit of 8gb of the same ram, and wait for the 390 to come out. Buy the 390 or grab a 290x at a discount after the release. Other than that your fine.
