2 more gigs of DDR2-to get or not to get

I am currently building a system w/ a 780i mobo and have 2 gbs of dual channel OCZ DDR2 800 ram. I am thinking about getting 2 more sticks (2 x 1gb) in order to have a tota of 4gbs of ram but am unsure.

I know that the new icore7 cpu's and mobo's are coming out at the end of this year and that those mobo's take DDR3.

So i want your opinion on whether i should spend the extra $50 and get the extra 2 gbs of DDR2 ram right now or should i just wait and save that $50 and put it towards DDR3 for when i upgrade to icore7 mobo and cpu?

Will i see a significant jump in performance while gaming if i get the extra 2gbs? What would you do?

Well will you be using Vista? If yes then you get the four gigs.Because Vista does eat up a whole of ram, so you want have enough to make sure everything runs smoothly. Also its not how much ram that helps with games frame rates its how fast it is. I would probably recommend ram that is 1066 for gaming. You wont see a huge jump from 800mhz to 1066mhz. Also see that DDR2 is so cheap now i dont think they'll go any cheaper and if they do probably wont to a big change. So get the extra 2 gigs

I am going to be using Vista home premium 64 bit...sorry for leaving that out.

then 4 gigs would defintly be good.

Since 2 sticks of OCZ 2 gb ddr2 800 dual channel is only 70-80ish...do you think that i should just buy 4 gigs (2 x 2gb sticks) of dual channel then or should i get 2 more 1gb sticks (ie. 4 x 1gb sticks)?

Well i think u should get the 2x2. But where are you getting ur ram from? OCZ in Canada is cheap. like 4GB 2x2 is only 100 and additional rebates

Tigerdirect and compusa has OCZ 4gb DDR2 dual channel (2 x 2gbs) for around 70-80ish...can't remember the exact price, but it was a deal.

o thats good then get that

Yeah, get two two gigabyte sticks, that way you can have the 4 gigs and spend less

Just wait. 2GB is enough to run anything (even Crysis)... even on Vista. Then when DDR3 comes out, you can put in 4 if you'd like. Only reason you would need 4 GB is for video editing, and stuff like that, not gaming.

Although might I also say don't get caught in the hype of DDR3... the performance it offers over DDR2 is minimal.

you want 4gbs if ur using the 64bt vista, as far as 2 2gb sticks or 4, what ever is cheaper the difference between t1 and t2 timings isnt noticeable.
