1TB RAM@supermicro m12swa-tf

Has anyone got 1 TB TAM to work with 8x Microns 3200 128 GB LRDIMMs (MTA72ASS16G72LZ-3G2R)? 7 DIMMS i.e. 896 GB work but 8 DIMMs/1 TB do not (does not boot to BIOS, which is 2.0b).
Is the latest BIOS (2.1) needed? The DIMMs seem to be OK (I interchanged them in different sockets). Everything for the memory config in the BIOS was set to “auto”. I also set 2933 MHz manually in the BIOS, which did not help. Interestingly 6x 128 GB Micron and 2x 64 GB Samsung DIMMS worked, showing 896 GB. Populating all 8 DIMMs with the 64 GB Samsung DIMMs also works.

I just got 1TB of this ram MTA144ASQ16G72PSZ-3S2E3. My computer booted just fine, but it’s crashing under stress testing so will return it. Not sure if I’ll try another set, this sized ram is so expensive.

Thanks for the reply. Which BIOS did you use?

In the meantime I noted that Supermicro claims that Samsung M393AAG40M32-CAE 128 GB DIMMs should work. It is also expensive though in that I will refrain at the moment.

No problem. Bios looks like: “BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends International, LLC. 1.0c, 9/10/2021”

LRDIMMS are kinda hit or miss with epyc. Although it should work according to page 6 here, I have heard that its kinda iffy. Depends on the dimm and board (mostly board) kind of thing, but if supermicro said these would work, then they should work… I wish I could give you more than anecdotes, but I don’t exactly have the thousand-something dollars sitting around to throw at this lol. Maybe try giving the contacts a bit of cleaning like this guy did:

I’m suspecting this may be some form of contact issue, either through pressure or through dirtiness.

Epyc is very, VERY flaky with LRDIMM’s and motherboard makes a big difference. Gigabyte, from my experience, is better in this respect.

I’m using the same M/B with 8 x Samsung M393AAG40M32-CEC0 (PC25600 128GB ECC-REG) modules and a 5995wx, and the system runs without any issues. The BIOS version is 2.0c.

I upgraded to the latest BIOS version 2.2. Still it did not work until I checked all 8 DIMMs thoroughly. This showed that one of the new 8 DIMMs was dead. In the meantime I got a replacement and am now a happy owner of 1 TB machine
