1st Time PC Building. Feat, FX 8350

Hi guys, after I found out (a week or two ago) that Logan still make videos, now for tek syndicate (I was a fan back in the tigerdirect days). I decided to join the forum and coincidentally I was planning on building myself a new comp Feat, FX 8350. So I would really appreciates hearing your comments, advice or suggestions you may have towards my build.

CPU: FX 8350

Mobo: ASUS Crosshair V formula AM3 AMD 990FX

GPU: MSI R9 290 Gaming 4GB 512-bit GDDR5

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2X8GB) DDR3 1866

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB

HDD Seagate Barracuda 2TB

PSU: Corsair Professional Series Gold AX750

Cooling: Corsair H105

Fans: AF140-LED Quiet Edition and (X2) AF120 Performance Edition

Case: Corsair Vengeance C70

And a cheap optical drive.

Oh yea, do you guys think the CPU will bottleneck the GPU that i chose? Because the other day I've seen the video that Logan did on the FX 8370 and saw inside the video there was an infograph of AMD's CPUs and a row of the suggested Graphics for the CPUs and for the FX 8350 it says the R9 280x GPUs. So what do you guys think?

PS. I'm looking on OCing the GPU.

Seems pretty well rounded to me. Nice choice of SSD, and no the 8350 will not bottleneck anything.

If you aren't really worried about budget reduction then there's not much to say I don't think.

Hmm on second thought, where did you find the Crosshair v formula you're looking at? All the ones I could find are like $400+ since they aren't made anymore.

If that is the case then might I recommend the newer version? The crosshair V formula-z can be had for about $220 on amazon. If you plan on overclocking your 8350 (which you'd be crazy not to) then the ROG boards are definitely the way to go. If not, then you probably won't be justified spending that much on a motherboard.

If you did somehow find the Crosshair v formula under $150 though, then go for it. But make sure it's AM3+ and not AM3, as you typed in your post.

Oh Tasmainia300 Thanks for pointing that out I didn't know that there was an older version of the Crosshair V formula-Z, I was actually planning on buying the newer one. Thanks a bunch I could have gave my supplier the wrong mobo info and end up paying for more.

I've spent a decent amount of time researching the parts i'm going to need for the build. And I also found alot of hate towards the FX 8350, saying stuff like its garbage and it will definitely bottleneck the newer GPUs like the R9 290 and up. So I end up worrying and needed a second opinion. And Yeap definitely OCing the CPU and from what I learned I'll need a pretty good mobo for it. The bang for the buck of that CPU is just crazy.

I recon I will spend around $1500 and I don't really mind cuz my budget was around that price. Thanks again man

What are you going to be using your SSD for? Because 500GB is actually a lot of space.

Also the FX 8350 will probably last you another generation or 2 of graphics cards before it'll start bottle-necking :)

Yeah no problem, I'm happy to help!

Well I'm not really the type of guy who likes to keep on upgrade their PCs. My old and current PC is now 4 years old. So I'm kind off future proofing the PC I'm builidng.

Thnx Beheeemont it's nice knowing that the FX-8350 will survive for couple more GPUs.

Ratzzz there is even an 1TB Samsung 840 EVO but its just too expensive ATM. Soo 500GB is just the perfect size and price for me.

Are you looking into adding another R9 290 in the future?  As your build currently stands, 750w is a bit limiting for a FX-8350 and two R9 290s.  I'd suggest bumping it up to 850w if you want to have two R9 290s.

If not, 750w is overkill for a single R9 290.

I'm also curious, is there a reason for you to be going completely AMD?  Your budget seems quite large and a GTX 970 might be more appealing.

Hmmm I was actually thinking about the PSU that i chose. I don't really see myself adding another GPU cuz I don't really like the idea of having two GPUs and crossfiring them. I might upgrade the GPU or might not. And regarding to your suggestion of the GTX 970, I kinda like it, pricing is not too different and still in my budget. Well I don't really have a reason for going completely AMD its just that I've been only using AMD CPUs and GPUs and has no experience with Nvidia

And Thanks alot for the suggestion, I think I will cross out the R9 290 for an GTX 970 assuming that It will be compatible with my build and im pretty certain that it will.

Do you think that a 650W PSU would suffice for the build? Even for the GTX 970?

The GTX 970 is much, much more power efficient than the R9 290.  650w can handle probably 2-3 GTX 970s, depending on overclocks and CPU.

Wow isn't that surprising (at least for me). Alright GTX 970 and an 650W PSU for me is a go! Thanks alot!

yes the FX8350 will bottleneck a 290 in cpu bound games.

i would personaly grab an i5, because its a better allround chip for gaming. Because no matter how high you overclock the FX8350, in cpu bound games it just will get asskicked by even the locked i5

And i say this as a FX8350 owner.

Well shit. Not sure what to do now, after reading your comment I googled CPU bound games and found that I play some if not most of those stuff. Hmmm so OCing the Fx 8350 wouldn't really do much in cpu bound games. But how bad does the FX 8350 buttkicked by an i5 CPU?

I kinda want to factor in the differences it will do, if its not really that much I might stick with the FX 8350 and if its soo bad i might just take you up on your advice.

well, the diffrences can be realy huge. Even a FX9590 which is an factory overclocked FX8350 to 5.0 ghz, just gets asskicked by an i5. especialy with an highend gpu like 290.

If you are an MMO player, dayZ, ARMA, lol, wow, skyrim, then dear god just go intel if you can ☺

Lol it took me a day to be able to reply.

MisteryAngel Thanks alot, I think im going to change my build into a Intel Comp instead of an AMD one. Really appreciates your input, the gaming benchmark gap is just too much.

I'm going to research a new build again and i hope you guys can help me with that.

Thanks alot!

Great vid MisteryAngel TY

get a r9 290x on ebay

I like it.

Get the 290 and 8350, no bottle necking...i dunno why anyone would even mention bottle necking anymore, only way that would happen is if you were using maybe a 3258 and a 290.

offcourse we can, just give us a budget. ☺
