Ok so I just build this today, I went through several pre-boot checklists etc and when it came to booting, I pressed the power button and all the fans+lights went on but nothing else, my screen isn't recieving anything. This is still the situation.
I'm hoping I wont need to rebuild it just cause of the time so I'm looking for any possible problems that could be causing this.
I tried taking the 2 memory sticks out one by one and booting, but it makes no difference, and the speaker didn't beep, which makes me think maybe the speaker is faulty?
I don't really know what else to do :/
edit: To make it easier for people to respond, basically I'm looking for any tests I can run to find out where the problem is and maybe how to fix it
Ok, I just tried putting a small voltage through the speaker and it made a sound so thats definately not broken.
I also tried booting with just the GPU and then with no components and it still didn't beep. I'm thinking possibly a dead-on-arrival mobo? Is there any way to be certain about this and has anyone got experience with gigabyte's returns?
Only thing left I got is check the CPU and make sure it's seated properly and that none of the pins are bent. After that, you are forced to call Gigabyte and RMA. From what I hear, Gigabyte has one of the better customer support services.
Same thing happened to me when I built a new PC for my boss, was a bad CPU lucky for me I had an AM3 build I did for my brother so I just took his CPU for a quick test
Oh I was wondering about that. My power supply just has a 2x12 pin 12V connector I think and I've plugged that into the mobo. I don't know much about this stuff so it would be great if you could just look at my motherboard and see if I need to do anything else. Theres a 4 pin connector near the CPU that isn't plugged in but the CPU fan is on ahh I dont know haha
edit: ah shit thats it isn't it, do you have to plug the 4 pin and 24 pin power? I dont think my PSU has a 4 pin :/ stupid me
Well I feel like a complete idiot now haha, just snapped the 8 pin power connector on my psu in half and plugged it into the CPU power. Its 5am so my mind probably isnt straight but tomorrow I'll double check i havent stuck a sata connector in a PCI-e slot and boot up. I blame the manual!
Its cool, we all make stupid little mistakes in life... just so you dont feel that bad, I always forget to flip the switch on the psu everytime i mess with / build a pc. I always think "crap, what went wrong" =P.
Well it's going great :D I'm more than happy with my first time build, it was much easier than expected.
As for this problem, I just didn't realise that the motherboard needed additional power for the CPU, which I got from snapping an 8-pin power on my Corsair PSU in half.
I guess I'm lucky my mistake didn't cost any parts :)
My first build I forgot to switch the PSU on so when I hit power nothing happened, it only took a few seconds and I figured it out having replaced several PSUs in the past
