€1k gaming build Suggestions wanted

I finally feel ready to ditch the consoles due to the whole DRM/Prism and a host of other reasons.[I'm Irish btw]

This is a preliminary build

Corsair Obsidian Series 550D, ATX, ohne Netzteil €116.06

Intel Core i5-3570 Box, LGA1155€183.33

8GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz CL9€51.44

Club 3D Radeon HD 7870 XT jokerCard, 2GB GDDR5, DVI, HDMI, 2x Mini DisplayPort€208.94

Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 550W€55.55

ASRock Z77 Pro4, Sockel 1155, ATX€97.64

Seagate Barracuda 7200 1000GB, SATA 6Gb/s€58.82

Crucial M4 128GB SSD 6,4cm (2,5")€100

As for OS, I've got a copy of Win7 lying around.

The main gripes I have is, since this would be my first build would I be better off to get a Haswell CPU,

And are there any improvements/suggestions that can be made towards the improvement of this build?

If you're going with a z77 board why not choose a K-unlocked processor? Or drop the z77 and get a slightly better GPU.

Was thinking against overclocking, if I was to drop the z77 and change GPU, what would you recommend?

Definitely get the K version. You may be against OC'ing right now, but when that CPU gets older and needs more power... Trust me, you'll want the K version!

MikeHunt47 is right, most people will get into OC'ing their build once time passes.

If you still want to save money, get an AMD processor, they are around 180-190 euros for the latest one (the FX 8350, and it's standard clock comes in at 4GHz and if you watercool it properly, you can OC it to 5GHz) which is unlocked by the way, so you don't have to get a different version to OC it. You can just OC it, period. Get yourself a 970 or 990 mobo and you're good to go.

If you want to upgrade your GPU, I'd recommend increasing your budget by a little bit and getting a 7970 for 350-400 euros. It's the latest, fastest single GPU card made by AMD. The 680, one of NVIDIAs best cards will easily set you back 100 euros more. I would not recommend getting a 670, because it's less powerful than the 7970, but costs the same.

Also, you don't need and SSD per se, because it increases the boot/loading times of things you have installed on it, and that's pretty much it. So you could save yourself 100 euros and get a better GPU. But if you really want an SSD (which I totally understand, fast=awesome) just roll with it.

what is your setup ? also i personally would go for the club 3D radeon HD 7950 royalking but still the 7870 i probaly beter for price/preformance.
