1k-1.1k Gaming/Streaming/Emulating Build (Needs a lookover)

Hey guys,

I'm currently making a semi-new PC. I'm carrying my current case (Cooler Master HAF 922 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case) over to the "new" PC. The pricerange is $1,000-1,200.

I am going to be using the PC for gaming (Dota 2, GW2, BF4, ect), a bit of streaming, and a tiny bit of ps2/gc emulation.

1. I'm not sure about my power supply, isn't it too many watts?

3. I would like to overclock, if needed, to be able to get the most frames out of my games

I would appreciate it if you guys could look over my build and make recommendations.

i dont see any problems, looks like a cool build, although i personally would go for a 990fx board, they give better overclocks and have crossfire support, but thats up to you.

So http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514 would be a good upgrade?

I also suggest getting a 990FX board if you want to OC, but the 990FXA-UD3 isn't that much better. It has some heating issues that makes it hard to OC. These two boards are IMO the best for overclocking the AM3+ platform, and since you have some budget left over, you'll be able to afford this. If you want to OC even more, I suggest getting a closed loop cooler, like an H80i, H100i, NZXT Kraken X40 or X60

If you want an SSD, I suggest a Crucial M4, Kingston HyperX 3K or an A-Data SX900/SX910. Get at least a 60-64GB one, as anything below is a waste.

Alright, here's what the new build looks like.

don't go AMD if its a emulator build, weak single core performance

  $1,208.69 after shipping and promo

I'd personally go with a different case, that's a overpriced dated case with USB 3 thrown on

I'm not sure about switching from the 8350 to an i5. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the 8350 seems to perform better with streaming, and on the side, more and more upcoming games are going to be more optimized for 8 cores.

it does do better in some case, but that's not to say that the i5 is terrible, you're not going to be streaming 2K so it doesn't really matter

that's just my intel build which is prefered for emulation, I can make a AMD build but you're going to have to OC to like 5Ghz to get it playable on PCSX2 or Dolphin

That would be great, i'd like to compare my build with yours.

The AMD FX 8350 owns the I5 even look at logans videos

for EMULATION which I've already mentioned, and one of the things he wants the build for, ivy bridge are excelent at since emulation rely's heavely on floats which intel has  dedicated 256bit FPU for each core while amd shares its 256bit FPU with 2 cores

emulation usually involves no more that 3-4 cores so amd would not benefit from the other 4 "cores" and since each core shares a FPU they are weaker, you need a pretty powerful CPU for both accurate and timely emulation

I've took a break from the forums a bit but I'm a veteran system builder and I'm pretty good at it, I'm on the internet everyday researching computer technology and how it works and what's the most cost effective, I know my shit, I'm also a Emulation Guru, if you need help getting a emulator working I'm the guy to talk to

That's not what the argument here is about, I am if anything biased towards AMD processors, but it is common knowledge that the 3570k has better single core performance than the 8350, and will therefore perform better with emulators.

sorry, wasn't having a go mate, I have no doubt you know more than me about this stuff, I was just telling the dude who said 'amd owns intel, even logan says' or whatever that that isn't always the case

Stop with the emulation crap, FX 8350 is fine there could be problems with it but by disabling one core per module and the problem is fixed. Emulators are not programmed/optimized for this new architecture...

who wants to go into bios every time they want to play a game to toggle core selections

also I'ves seen some pretty retarded core unlocker settings where they only let you disable PAIRS of cpus instead of every other one.

Dude, you're a seriously trying to go against gigabuster? There's no problem with the 8350, but since the OP wants to emulate on this build, which really is more single-thread heavy, then the i5 is the better choice, since it has stronger single-threaded performance( even if you turn the 8350 into a quad) and similar multi-threaded performance. If you say that the 8350 is fine, then I say the i5 is fine as well
