So I’m running AMD R5 1600 a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 mobo and 16gb of corsair LPX RAM
I just noticed the other day that in the system properties it can see the 16gb but only 7.95 is available.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Update:
Just updated the bios, the xmp profile seems to be working ish… in that the bios says it’s set to smp profile 1 3200 but then it shows the RAM still running at 2400 though that’s a different issue all together.
But still I only have access to half the RAM, this seems to be something that’s gone on a lot so I don’t think it’s confined to the new ryzen.

@Ginga_NZ, are you seeing this in the “Task Manager” or the actual “System” interface?
System, like right click ‘This PC’ and selecting properties.
Does the 16gb show up in bios? That’d be the first thing to check.
Perhaps you’r running 32bits, thats a max of 8 Gb.
That’d only allow 4gb of usable memory, not 8gb.

Oehh my bad, its bin so long sind i was 32bit
Yes it shows up in the bios but also in the system infomation, just next to it in brackets is 7.95 usable.
Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation all have an 8GB physical memory limit, as per Microsoft’s article below:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx#physical_memory_limits_windows_10
Don’t suppose you are running any of these systems?

I highly doubt you’re running the above, a bit of a silly question really.
How many RAM modules are you using? If you’re using two, what slots are they in?
CPUs often used to expect the RAM slots to be populated in a certain order. If this were the case then the BIOS might well detect the physical RAM, but the CPU may not be able to use it.
From the numbers printed on the board it looks like you will want to fill the red slots first, starting furthest from the CPU socket. You should check the manual of course, but there is numbering on the silkscreen next to the slots.

I am running a 64bit version of win and yes I’m using those slots, followed the manual during installation.
For all I know this problem has been persisting for a while and I just never noticed.
Just found a bios update so am going to try that and will see if the xmp will actually work.

Dude visit this site and to see what is the power http://www.alienware.com/
I don’t have an alienware product and I’m not looking to buy one.
Sorry, I didn’t understand what are you looking for
Try bumping up the voltage on your RAM channel? There will be a setting somewhere in the overclocking section/utility of the UEFI.
I have a kit of Corsair LPX, and I had to tune in a manual clock speed of 3200Mhz–on a 3000Mhz kit-- in order to get my system to actually post all 16GB of RAM available and stable. There may also be some means of a RAM timing mod–try playing around with that, too.
CPU-Z can see the 16 GB it appears 8GB is Hardware reserved, I would assume this is for iGPU and such but Ryzen has no intergrated graphics so…
How many modules are you using? I guess you tried already all possible combinations with dimms and slots.
You can always run a live linux to check what’s happening there too.
Check some of your BIOS settings, man. I am telling you, adjusting the memory timing mode and RAM voltage will most likely fix the issues you are facing.
I don’t really know what I’m doing in there though… lol
@Ragnaros I have two 8Gb dimms and I checked that they were seated properly (Though since windows is detecting the 16GB didn’t think it’d be that.) Also am using the recommended slots.
