This is pretty much Pistol's AMD build. The only real differences is that I upgraded to a 290x, removed 16gb of ram, and changed the case. I will be ordering the parts whenever I decide on a build.
What I needed help with was:
Compatibility
Any lacking parts or inefficent parts (price/performance improvements)?
Need a power supply
Should I go with a different 290x brand?
Will it all fit in the case?
I'm am in need of a new monitor, any suggestions (won't be factored into price)?
Budget - $1500-$1700
Where do you live - USA
Computer Use - Computer will be used for Gaming/Streaming/Editing, I will be emulating older games as well as playing modern games, with the possibility of being able to stream or make videos.
Overclocking - If needed to achieve max settings, I will.
OS - I will most likely install W8 (I have it)
If you Game-
What kind of settings do you like or what FPS do you want to play at? Max settings/60 fps
What resolution will you be playing at? //or would like to play at. Right now, my only monitor is 1080x1920 (I am looking to get a new monitor, and use my current one as the secondary monitor)
What kind of games do you like to play? Everything from Dota 2, emulated ps2 games, to modern games (as I haven't been able to play any with my current setup)
If you Render or Edit things-
What application do you use to render? (very important) I would like to get into making videos, but I'm not very keen on how to go about it.
Peripherals:
What size monitor are you looking for, and what resolution? Screen type (IPS, S-IPS, TN, etc.), hertz (60, 120, etc.) I'm not exactly educated on monitors, but I do want something that is larger than my current one (22') The monitor will most likely be purchased later on, so feel free to give me recommendations.
that FX 9590 isn't worth the price, if you want, you can go with and FX 8350/20 and overclock it to get the excact performance as you would with the FX 9590. Also there are intel options around. Here are a couple of good builds for you :)
1. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2OmAV great for overclocking, and will perform like a beast.
intel:
2. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2OmLI if you want intel, and want to overclock, this would be a great option
3.http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2OmNS if you are not into overclocking, pick the xeon. It is basically and i7-4770 without an iGPU
these would be my suggestions for you, feel free to pick whatever you personally like from whoever, and feel free to customize them how you want. I picked the GTX 780 because it is 90$ cheaper, but if you want the 290X then go for it. they are both excellent cards :)
with the FX 9590, all you are doing, is paying 150$ more, from an factory overclocked FX 8350.
The fractal case comes with 3 fans pre installed, and the h100i comes with 2 fans also, but they can be pretty loud, if you run them in performance mode. You can get aftermarket fans if you prefer them over the fans that this rig comes with, it is up to you. You might get more quieter rig with fans like Noctua NF-F12's or corsair SP12 quiet editions. Just remember to get STATIC optimized fans to things like radiators and in front, if you have all the HDD cages installed.
The fans that come with the fractal case and the H100i are good, but if you feel like you need to get "better" fans, go for it :)
The 9590 is an overclocked 8350. They are the EXACT same chip, just that the 9590 was overclocked by AMD. The 8350 can be clocked as high or higher than the 9590. If you overclocked a 8350 to the same 4.7ghz the 9590 is clocked at, then they would perform identically. There architecture is the same, they were made the same way, the only difference is that the 9590 could get the 4.7ghz clock with slightly less volts than a 8350 could. But the 8350 can still easily hit 4.7 or more. Lots of people can get 5.0ghz on there 8350.
The 9590, as stated above, is pretty much an overclocked 8350. However, this does not mean every 8350 will get 4.7ghz. The 9590s are 'binned' higher, and are a bit more flexible to overclocking. I do not like the 9590 due to the heat output. I would go the extra couple dollars for an Intel i7 if you were looking for a nice high end build. The 8350 is about on par with Intel's i5-3570k/4670k.
Alright, I downgraded the CPU to the 8350, and bumped up my graphics card to the Sapphire Tri-X 290x.
Now for the power supply, there's a deal going on at Thermaltake's website for their ToughPower Grand 700w which comes out to $108. Would that be a good deal? Also any opinions on my updated build are welcome, and thanks for the help.
