Greetings all, I've been in a bit of a monitor buying frenzy as of late, and I can't seem to make up my mind. Should I get one Korean 1440p monitor or two 1080p monitors? Regardless of which choice I pick, I would be getting a custom monitor mount.
If it's one screen, I'll get this stand because the stands for the Korean monitors are shit:
If it's two screens, I'll get this stand to make adjusting and positioning the monitors much easier:
The tasks I'll be doing are gaming (not hardcore, but still fairly competitive), coding, web design, and just general PC use. I'd like the screen to be glossy or at least semi-glossy as I hate how grainy heavy matte screens make the picture look. I prefer IPS for the its better colors, and on that subject, I would like the monitor(2) to have good colors, vibrancy, and contrast. It doesn't need to be top-end professional level, I don't have that kind of cash, but something enjoyable to look at. It would be good to have a decent response time too, nothing crazy like 1 or 2 ms, but around 5 - 7 ms is perfectly acceptable. 60Hz refresh rate is fine.
I'd like to keep the price below $400 (not counting the stands).
Any advice you guys have is much appreciated, thanks!
(PS if you think you have a much better idea for what I should do, feel free to say so :) )
Thinking about it more, the VESA requirement limits the amount of available 1080p monitors in the $150 - $200 price range, so I'm removing that requirement :)
I use this as asecondary, to the right of my Shimian. Has a red tint, but can be fixed by going into the OSD and entering the RGB color balance. Turn the red down to 90. Red tint gone.
Since you are coding, I would go for one Shimian and one 1080p monitor. This is much better for me, personally. One 1440p monitor for dem pixels, and of course more room. Second 1080p for reference, or just doing something else.
@Jody Did you order your Shimian from that page? I'm just a little nervous about buying a refurbished product, especially since it says that dead pixels are not a reason for a return or replacement. Were there any problems with yours?
Mine seems like it was a used pixel perfect display. I've had no problems. If you decide to buy it, remember you need a Dual Link DVI cable, and a graphics card that supports Dual Link DVI,
Awesome, thanks for your help! The Shimian is looking like a great choice now ($200 2K monitor what???) and the fact that it does have a 14 day return policy makes me a lot less nervous. Thanks for the 1080p monitor suggestion as well! I actually found a cheaper 1080p monitor from Dell that I might pick up later if I can arrange my desk to fit it as well.
